Food Service Worker/Cook Center Point Urbana Community School District Center Point , IA 52213 Support - Position - Food Service/Cafeteria Staff **Food Service Worker/Cook**

* 6 hour kitchen manager at the High School

* 3 hour nutrition clerk position at the High School

* 3 hour assistant cook position at the High School

* 2 hour assistant cook position at the Intermediate School

* 3 or 4 hour assistant cook position at the Primary School

**SUMMARY:** To prepare and serve nutritious and attractive meals to students and staff in an atmosphere of efficiency and cleanliness.

**ESSENTIAL FOOD SERVICE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** *Other duties may be assigned.*

- Successfully demonstrate ability to use kitchen equipment, ovens, kettles, meat slicers, etc.

- Maintain the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.

- Prepare food according to planned menu and uniform recipes, and determines if the finished product is of the best quality in both flavor and appearance before it is served.

- Set-up serving line in an attractive and efficient manner.

- Serve foods according to specified portion control.

- Clean serving areas, ovens, refrigerators, floors, dishes, etc., and other related areas on a regular basis as assigned by the Head Cook.

- Inform Head Cook when supplies are needed.

- Maintain knowledge of sanitary procedures and proper handling of food products (HACCP).

- Responsible for bringing food products and supplies needed in from storage areas, freezers and coolers.

- Must maintain confidentiality on all issues relating to students and staff members.

- Must be able to work and communicate with school personnel, co-workers, and students in an appropriate and courteous manner.

- Wear proper work attire as specified by the Food Service Director.

- Attend staff meetings and training as required

- Perform other duties as may be assigned by Head Cook and/or Food Service Director.

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:** High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

**MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:** Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

**OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES**: Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS:** The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

- Lift up to 35 pounds using proper lifting techniques, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.

- Able to sit, reach, carry, push, bend body at waist, bend both knees, twist, squat, kneel and stoop while handling items.

- Ability to climb stairs as needed

- Able to hear and speak to communicate with clients, other workers, and supervisors.

- Able to read recipes and employee handbook.

- Able to see at close range and distinguish colors for judging appearance, condition, and attractiveness of food.

- Able to answer, communicate, and dial the telephone in a clear, precise voice.

- Occasionally operate lunch line computer quickly and accurately to move clients through checkout line.

- Ability to work in confined spaces, such as walk-in freezers and coolers, and small storage areas.

- Ability to stand for periods up to 2 hours at a time.

- Must possess finger, hand, wrist, arm, elbow and shoulder dexterity for continuous use of small tools, such as knives.

**WORKING CONDITIONS:**

- Will be required to work in confined spaces such as walk-in freezers with temperatures well below zero.

- Will be required to use food service equipment that may create extreme temperatures with steam and high heat.

- May be subject to working with strong detergents or potentially hazardous chemicals.

- Will be required to stand when prepping, serving, or operating a computer.

- May be required to work additional hours as required for special events, employee absences, or during certain times of the year.
