Job Description:

TITLE: Group Exercise Instructor & Personal Trainer

DEPARTMENT: Athletics & Wellness

SUPERVISOR: Dean Bowen

SSTA APPROVER: Dean Bowen

SCHEDULE: Varies during the weekdays

HOURLY PAY RATE: $25-$40

General Statement of Duties: The Group Exercise Instructor & Personal Trainer will provide a professional level of guided instruction to the participants/clients. They will also play a role in the maintenance capacity of the facility making sure that equipment is being properly used, cleaned and maintained at all times. The Instructor/Trainer is responsible for the supervision and operation of the class, its participants, and clients. Additionally, all employees are required to provide a welcoming, inclusive, safe, clean and enjoyable, service oriented environment for participants at all times.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide a welcoming and safe fitness experience.

2. Conduct classes/sessions for participants following protocols as accepted and provided by the Wellness Center and industry standards for a great class/session experience.

a. Proper warm up, class routine/session workout, including a cool down/stretch period.

b. Accompany your class with appropriate music.

c. Instruct/Train within your knowledge and expertise.

d. Be aware or participant/client safety during class/session time(s).

3. Responsible for the appropriate exercise room setup and break down when applicable.

4. Manage checking in class participants or clients when necessary.

5. Responsible for the appropriate use of sound system when applicable.

6. Report any safety or equipment maintenance issues.

7. Adhere to all Wellness Center and departmental policies and procedures.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

Appropriate group fitness/personal training experience related to desired format. Current CPR/AED certification. Primary Group Fitness/Personal Training Certification from ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NETA or NASM preferred or other nationally recognized and accredited organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of all Wellness Center policies. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Understanding of best customer service practices.
