Chief Systems Engineer

Gridiron IT is seeking a Chief Systems Engineer to support an international program in Fairfax, VA


Position Summary: Primarily focused on the development and organization of IT Systems. Leads effort to form a structured development process that facilitates IT Systems operations.


I. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Database administrator (DBA) in support of Association Management System (AMS), member portal and membership databases.
  • Lead software architect responsible for online member portal maintenance and upgrades.
  • Lead reporting specialist supporting all departments as needed with reporting requirements.
  • Lead on development efforts for special projects as required.
  • Other AFCEA duties as required.


II. Education & Experience:

  • BS or higher in computer science or engineering discipline.
  • Association experience desired, but not required.
  • Professional Experience
  • Management experience supervising employees and processes.
  • Data warehousing and migration experience
  • Cloud database services background (NoSQL, Azure SQL, or AWS RDS)
  • Salesforce expertise (assuming the association moves to SF as an AMS solution)
  • Data API coding skills (JSON/XML)
  • Operational report generation capabilities
  • Web programming language competency
  • An understanding of association data requirements across multiple areas (membership, donations, events, publishing/media)
  • Experience in the following areas would also be beneficial to the position: Java, JSP (Java Server Pages), JDBC, SQL (specifically Oracle), Database Stored Procedures, Relational Database Design, Database Administration (Oracle), HTML, CSS, Javascript, REST API, XML required.


III. Role Specific Certification:

  • Microsoft Certifications desired.
  • Remain current in association management programming and applications.
  • Participate in on-the-job training.
  • Attend programs sponsored by other associations and professional seminars or programs related to management of the association s IT infrastructure.


IV. Role Specific Technical Competencies:

  • Supervisory Role Responsible for some training and supervision of AFCEA IT and Finance staff in utilization of finance and service center database administration.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IT systems design and implementation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences internal and external to the organization.


VIII. Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires sitting (80%), standing (5%), and walking (15%). Additional physical requirements are as follows:
  • Requires lifting materials of approximately 20-25 lbs.
  • Often requires extensive use of computer keyboard, mouse and monitor.


IX. Work Environment/Conditions:

  • Dayshift hours primarily, however, may work Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and nights without compensatory pay
