SGA provides a wide range of social services in some of Chicago's most challenged and consistently underserved communities and creates long-term and community-wide change.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Support nutrition services and provide nutrition expertise to meet the health requirements for Early Head Start
  • Collaboration with Nurse on Individual Health/Nutrition Plan (IHP/INP) development and follow-up for nutrition-related assessment data including height, weight, hemoglobin/hematocrit and led.
  • Reviewing and approving menus for socializations based on Head Start Performance Standards, avoiding choking hazards, ensuring developmental readiness and individual requirements for children with special dietary restrictions; ensure that the menus meet cultural, religious, and ethnic preferences and requirements.
  • Providing nutrition training and workshops to program parents and staff.
  • Collaboration with Home-Based Supervisors and/or Home Visitors for support in nutrition education resources, activities, and food experience requirements.
  • Collaborate with Health Coordinator to ensure nutritional needs of children and pregnant women are met.
  • Responsible for data entry associated with the health/nutrition component.
  • Participate in internal staffing when necessary.
  • Providing nutrition consultations and/or education to families and pregnant women.
  • Attending relevant nutrition training and any other meetings related to health/nutrition with the Grantee.
  • Complete monthly reports and monitoring required by the Grantee. Any other nutrition related support the program requests, as appropriate as needed.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

The Consultant shall work about 180 hours per year.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:
  • Registered Dietician with a current license. Experience:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Head Start Program Performance Standards pertaining to health and nutrition.
  • Preferred experience in pediatrics, Early Childhood, and/or childcare.

Other:
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals, and community groups Bilingual in English-Spanish (verbal, written).
  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or the
  • organization.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to establish helping relationships with families of varying educational, experiential, and socio-economic backgrounds and handle emergency and crisis situations.

Key Competencies
  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.
  • Schedule may be flexible and may include some evening and weekends.
  • Reliable transportation.
