Property Accountant

Salary Range: $83,520 - $92,800 annually

POSITION OVERVIEW


Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant - Properties (SAP) is responsible for a wide variety of complex tasks related to the financial management of the agency s portfolio operations. This position must have a thorough understanding of nonprofit full-cycle fund accounting and in close coordination with the Director of Finance provides day-to-day operation of property accounting, essential construction accounting activities, management reporting, preparation of audit schedules and compliance with funder and investor requirements. You will lead financial analysis of property performance vs. budget and partner with the Site Manager(s), the Asset Manager, the Director of Housing Operations and the Real Estate Development team. The SAP provides Housing Operations staff with a high level of customer service and assistance with financial transactions related to their work. This position requires the ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment and initiative. This is a full-time exempt position.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Responsible for property monthly close, ensuring that internal and external monthly reporting is timely and accurate.
  • Prepare timely and reconcile accurately cash receipts, deposits, accounts receivable, cash disbursements, and accounts payable; this includes monthly close and reconciliation of rental activities.
  • Prepare and post general journal entries. Prepare or review bank reconciliations, trial balances, general ledgers, and other balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Analyze and record acquisitions/dispositions of real estate assets; maintain and update fixed asset schedules and post monthly depreciation/amortization.
  • Collaborate with Real Estate Development, Asset Management and Housing Operations for the timely monthly draws, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including budget-to-actual/variance analysis preparation and distribution of reports to applicable third parties, i.e. auditors, funders, lenders, and investors
  • Work with Director of Finance, Director of Real Estate Development and Asset Management on issues related to tax and insurance, loan administration, and construction draws.
  • Prepare audit schedules, audit preparatory material, and support onsite work with Director of Finance.
  • Participate in the ongoing development and improvement of financial systems.
  • Cross train with staff accountants as needed.
  • Provide support and training to direct reports.
  • Provide support to the finance team on HomeRise s various platforms and information systems.
  • Work with Director of Finance in developing and implementing fiscal policies, internal controls, and accounting manual.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with employees and vendors. Ability to garner necessary information from relationships in order to accomplish job functions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or CFO.


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor s degree in Accounting with (2) two years Accountant experience.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP requirements.
  • Non-profit affordable housing real estate development accounting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal award regulation, in particular OMB A-122 and A-133.
  • Analytical and detail oriented yet able to look at the whole picture in implementing systems, procedures and plans that meet current department goals and longer-term goals.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple priorities and function independently and as a team member.
  • Excellent interpersonal and business communication skills, both written and verbal and strict adherence to confidentiality.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, databases, etc.) experience with Yardi preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to the high performance of the Finance Team.
