REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: District policies and procedures as they apply; Methods and practices of cleaning and repair of District equipment and furniture; Operation of tools and equipment used in all phases of school cleaning and school maintenance; Oral and written communication skills; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; Proper methods and safe operation of equipment and tools used in custodial work. Ability to: Operate and use a variety of cleaning agents, supplies, equipment, tools and machines in a safe and proper manner. Maintain and verify accuracy and completeness of work requests. Troubleshoot and repair/replace a variety of equipment. Make simple arithmetic calculations with accuracy. Adhere to safe work practices. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. Perform appropriately in situations requiring tact and diplomacy. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Meet schedules and deadlines. Plan and organize work. Work independently with minimal supervision. Provide work direction to others as assigned. Work at various configurations. Adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice. Perform heavy physical exertion. Follow-through with directives. Experience and Education: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school or possession of GED required; supplemented by one (1) year of building custodial experience, preferably in a school setting. Possession of a valid First Aid Certificate. Possession of a valid California Class C Motor Vehicle Operators License. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION 1. Perform a wide variety of non-technical custodial services and repair tasks; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate. 2. Maintains school equipment and surfaces throughout the District. 3. Maintains a clean, orderly work area; Cleans, vacuums, sweeps, waxes, and maintains classrooms and other instructional areas for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment. 4. Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities, and events. 5. Delivers a variety of items for the purpose of distributing the materials to the appropriate parties. 6. Operates a variety of cleaning equipment, tools, and machines. 7. Washes chalkboards, windows, walls and blinds. 8. Maintains custodial equipment and supplies. 9. Orders materials as needed and makes recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase. 10. May perform grounds and maintenance work. 11. Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this job description are the following essential physical requirements. 1. Seldom = Less than 25% 3. Often = 51 - 75% 2. Occasional = 25 - 50% 4. Very Frequent = 76%+ 2 Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. 4 Ability to stand for extended periods of time. 4 Ability to see for purposes of reading printed matter and observing students. 4 Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. 4 Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation. 4 Ability to bend and twist, stoop, kneel, run and crawl. 3 Ability to lift 50 pounds. 4 Ability to carry 25 pounds. 2 Ability to operate office equipment. 4 Ability to reach in all directions.
