Job Details

Our client, a provider of metalworking machinery is seeking a Purchasing Manager to join their Belleville, Illinois team.


Position Summary

Supervises the operation of the Purchasing department. Coordinates the activities of these functions to ensure that internal and external commitments are met. Plans and carries out assignments requiring solutions of a variety of complex problems based on a wide choice of possible actions. Provides leadership and directions while building an effective team spirit.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Communicates and collaborates effectively across functional boundaries as required to meet customer needs.
  • Direct and implements the necessary programs within the Purchasing department to meet the strategic sourcing, performance, and financial goals of the organization.
  • Clarifies departmental procedures, requirements, systems, and programs for the Purchasing department. Establishes evaluation criteria, coordinates vendor quality program requirements, and conducts investigations to evaluate new programs, techniques, methods, facilities, and equipment.
  • Places purchase orders for material Internationally and Domestically with customer focus. Includes interfacing with international offices and facilities, Production, Methods Engineering, and the Parts Sales Department to coordinate purchased items with production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Evaluates and maintains supplier performance records. Requires contact with vendors to ensure adherence to Company pricing, quality, and delivery requirements. Performs supplier business reviews and corrective action plans, as necessary. Will involve qualification of additional sources of supply as needed.
  • Maintains systematic and visual records of proper Current Unit Cost, Lead Time, and records for purchased items within JD Edwards to ensure material traceability.
  • Coordinates special projects and accountabilities within the Purchasing Department as assigned.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company policies, the Code of Ethical Business Conduct, and applicable laws.


Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Education

  • Bachelor s degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent combination of education and experience with an emphasis in Purchasing.
  • Master s Degree Preferred.


Skills/Experience

  • Previous supervisor or management experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and knowledge of JD Edwards preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology, and information affecting his/her business and organization is required.
  • Ability to make good, timely decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment is required.
  • Ability to manage a diverse group while empowering and motivating them to achieve organization objectives and personal goals.
  • Must possess valid driver s license for state of residence and be insurable under the company s motor vehicle insurance policy.
