Description

Performs general labor and maintenance of town streets, parks, and facilities and infrastructure in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; performs other related duties.

Examples of Duties

  • Operates a variety of specialized equipment and performs manual labor tasks in order to maintain safe parks, streets and City facilities as assigned; duties will vary according to job assignment.
  • Learns to safely operate a variety of specialized equipment.
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports problems requiring additional attention.
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of drainage, underground water and wastewater distribution, and storm water collection systems.
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of roadways; maintains landscaping and park grounds; clears trash, brush, weeds and debris from roadways, structures, grounds and facilities.
  • Digs and fills holes; patches streets; clears and repairs roadway, shoulders and adjoining areas; installs and maintains signs;
  • Cleans and maintains City facilities and buildings; makes minor facilities repairs.
  • Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Ability to flex work hours and schedule to accommodate special projects, work overtime, and be on-call as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND one (1) year work experience
  • Some maintenance or outdoor work experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Valid Texas Department of Public Safety Class C Driver's License required with good driving record in accordance with Town of Fairview policy.
  • Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
  • Must obtain a Class D Water license within one year of employment.

  • Principles and practices of occupational hazards and safety precautions in performing heavy manual labor and using various types of equipment.
  • Basic tools and equipment used in streets, parks, facilities and grounds maintenance.
  • Traffic laws and rules for vehicle and equipment operation.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair standards for motorized equipment and vehicles.
  • Town organization, operations, policies and procedures.
  • City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Federal and state safety laws and regulations, including drug and alcohol testing guidelines for CDL.
  • Local and regional traffic patterns, road systems, and the locations of landmarks and buildings.
  • Materials, methods, and practices used in road construction and maintenance.
  • Federal and State regulations governing water/wastewater operations.
  • Methods, procedures, and standards for maintaining vehicle and equipment maintenance records.

Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions and performs the physical requirements of the work. Sufficient body flexibility, mobility, stamina and balance, manual dexterity, and physical reflexes to permit employee to perform job responsibilities and operate a variety of motorized equipment, power and hand tools safely, drive, walk, climb, work below ground and in confined spaces. Ability to lift greater than 100 pounds may be required. Work may involve exposure to the elements, moving traffic, dangerous machinery, infectious diseases, and hazardous chemicals.
