PeerSource is currently recruiting for a Mainframe Systems Engineer on a Direct Hire basis. This position can be based either in Gulfport, MS or New Orleans, LA.
Summary
This position is crucial for the technical direction and support in developing and maintaining IBM Mainframe systems software and procedures. Responsibilities include analyzing, designing, and implementing complex solutions across a broad user base. The role involves close collaboration with senior management to solve unstructured business problems and guide system enhancements, integrating new technologies into existing frameworks. Additionally, this role involves leading and mentoring junior programming staff and coordinating various phases of projects.
Responsibilities
- Act as a lead contributor and project coordinator on complex IBM Mainframe-related projects, overseeing the development and integration of system enhancements.
- Analyze functions and existing procedures to design and implement technical configurations and plans for IBM Mainframe systems.
- Develop specifications and oversee the production of procedures for IBM Mainframe software and programs, recommending new technologies to enhance system performance.
- Provide expertise in interpreting complex business issues, proposing solutions, and offering technical guidance to junior programmers and various department personnel involved with Mainframe operations.
Required Skills
- 5-8+ years of experience working as an IBM Mainframe systems programmer. Prior experience as a mainframe CICS systems programmer would be a plus.
- Experience working with in an IBM z/OS Sysplex environment.
- Knowledge of complex financial/banking applications and programming needs ideal but other industries would be considered.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
- BS in technical discipline or equivalent experience.
- Ability to provide some after hours/on-call support on a rotating basis.
- Available for minimal travel.
