SALARY: $60,000 - $70,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications, plus a comprehensive benefits package to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement System

Under general supervision of the Senior Network Engineer, monitors, analyzes, defines and configures network resources, hardware, and communication networks; coordinates hardware and software updates and user problem resolution; performs, other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

(Illustrative Only) Configures and supports networked hardware/software systems which include and is not limited to: trunk radio systems, licensed microwave equipment, routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, wireless access points, voice systems and servers. Identify and resolve network-related issues. Equipment and Cable infrastructure installations. Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment maintaining high availability of networked services. Continually research new technologies and provide expert advice to improve reliability, security, and performance of networked systems.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education; and two (2) years' of experienceadministering microwave, radio and data communications networks in a production environment; An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered, to include industry certifications such as Network +, CCNA. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and the ability to be covered by county insurance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Extensive knowledge of:

  • LAN/WAN enterprise environments;
  • IPv4, IPv6, addressing implementations;
  • VLANs, L3/L2, 802.1q, STP, VoIP, QoS, FHRP;
  • Licensed Microwave Equipment
  • Trunked Radio Systems - Motorola Experience Preferred:
  • Cisco IOS, ASA; NAT, ACL, Wireless;
  • IPSEC, SSL, RADIUS, TACACS+ and VPN security:
  • Radio Programming.
Working knowledge of:
  • Windows client/server (Windows 10, 11 and Server 2016, 2019, 2022):
  • Red Hat Linux, VMWare, ESXI, VSphere ;
  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy;
  • Network Management, Monitoring, and Scanning Applications (SolarWinds Orion, Syslog.);
  • Copper, Fiber, Wireless standards and technologies;
  • Radio and Microwave Communications System Concepts, Site Operations, and FCC Rules and Regulations.
  • MS Visio or equivalent diagramming software.
Ability to:
  • Utilize expert knowledge to design and document to industry standard/best practicess;
  • Understand and implement network change management rules and principals;
  • Safely operate 4WD vehicle on rugged, mountainous roads;
  • Work with considerable independence and initiative;
  • Read, write and speak English;
  • Effectively communicate concepts, ideas and instructions to other technical staff and lay persons.
Skill in:
  • Following written and verbal instruction;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with employees, other agencies, and the public;
  • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed under general supervision in an office setting with appropriate climate controls, outdoors in a variety of climatic conditions and may include work in confined spaces. Navigate mountain site access roads, equipment installations on communications towers. May require travel, working early mornings, evenings, weekends, and on-call.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, involves sitting, walking and standing regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, feel or manipulate with hands.
