POSITION TYPE: Hourly, Non-exempt
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for tasks pertaining to prisoners that do not require the service of a police officer.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Receives, photographs, and fingerprints prisoners as necessary.
  • Maintains prisoners' personal property.
  • Maintains the security and well-being of inmates confined to the jail.
  • Performs custodial duties in the upkeep of the jail and associated areas.
  • Transports or releases prisoners to officers for transportation to court.
  • Obtains and serves food to prisoners.
  • Provides commissary service for prisoners.
  • Maintains prisoner money accounts.
  • Launders jail uniforms and blankets.
  • Transports work release prisoners to and from work sites.
  • Administers prisoners' medications.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Operate all technical equipment to secure officer and inmate safety to include body scanners, cameras, Central Square, LiveScan, MULES.
  • Maintain records of property released to parties other than inmates.
  • Monitor inmate telephone calls for bonding purposes.
  • Process bonds for other agencies; maintain accurate paperwork for court.
  • Maintain accurate paperwork for sentenced inmates, work hours, commissary, etc.
  • Maintain CPR certifications, knowledge of first aid.
  • Taser and OC (mace) certifications.
  • Knowledge of radio communications, use of radio policies.
  • Operate jail control room equipment. Train new employees on operation.
  • Maintain log of inmate allergies.
  • Communicate with doctor/nurse with medication procedures; transcribe orders; administer insulin; blood sugar checks.
  • Transport federal inmates to court or doctor/dentist appointments.
  • Oversee federal inmates with video court appearances.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the control and custody of prisoners.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations concerning the privacy and security of criminal justice information.
  • Skill in the performance of custodial duties.
  • Skill in the operation of laundry equipment.
  • Skill in the operation of a prisoner transport van.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • No felony convictions.

HOURS OF WORK: The shifts will be days, evenings, and nights.

The total compensation value for this position is $25.67 hourly/$53,401 yearly, which consists of the starting hourly rate plus the benefit package.
