**Library Branch Manager (Librarian I)**

Salary $57,387.20 - $71,968.00 Annually Location GRPL Main Library 111 Library St NE GR MI, MI Job Type Permanent Department Library Services Job Number 987-0621 Closing 7/12/2021 9:00 AM Eastern This full-time position provides direct public service to library patrons, collaborates on management of a small branch, builds community connections, and plans and presents programming.

This position works in the North Region and manages the .

Schedule requirements include one evening per week and alternating Saturdays.

**Examples of Work**

* Engages with the public around library resources, services, and programming; provides patron advisory and guidance services; answers reference questions; performs database searches; assists patrons with searches; assists patrons in selection of materials.

* Develops and presents creative and impactful public programs; contributes to planning and development of programming and initiatives; executes, presents, and leads programming for diverse audiences.

* Identifies opportunities for collaboration with community partners, advocates for the library, and builds relationships.

* Actively initiates and builds community connections and partnerships; identifies opportunities for collaboration; travels to other branches, meetings, and outreach events within the city and the county; conducts library tours and informational sessions.

* Supervises branch operations in collaboration with other managers to foster a positive team environment; identifies patterns and communicates branch issues as needed; may direct other staff and give input to their work evaluations; may train personnel.

* Participates in Management Team; contributes to the development and execution of goals in support of the GRPL's mission and strategic plan; implements and provides feedback on policies and procedures.

* Attends professional meetings and in-service programs; keeps current with developments in library science.

* Contributes to selection, development and evaluation of materials in specialized or assigned area; recommends items to be added or withdrawn from the library collections.

* Performs other duties of a similar nature as assigned.

Nature of Work Minimum Training and Experience

* Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

* Eligibility for certification from Library of Michigan preferred.

* Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish is preferred.

* Ability to provide professional, friendly service to library staff and patrons; ability to make independent, reliable decisions related to customer service functions; ability to model engaging and consistent customer service.

* Ability to communicate professionally with diverse groups both verbally and in writing.

* Ability to represent the library in the community and to initiate, build, and maintain productive relationships with a variety of partners.

* Ability to plan, execute, and present programming, which may include preschool story times, book talks, puppet shows, school visits, and adult programs.

* Knowledge of modern library resources, services, principles, policies, procedures, and professional methods.

* Knowledge of the community and its characteristics; awareness of current trends in patron interests and needs; ability to keep current with services and opportunities available to the community as they relate to the scope of the position.

* Ability to supervise, mentor and train a small staff; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other staff and the general public; ability to work collaboratively.

* Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines; adaptability and judgment to reprioritize as needed.

* Ability to perform standardized processes; ability to follow procedures in processing forms and other communication.

* Ability to learn and keep up-to-date on GRPL policies, procedures, and documentation as they relate to role; ability to communicate and train around these functions and relay accurate information as needed.

* Ability to understand systems and maintain an organized and effective work process.

* Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.

* Understanding of general office procedures, processes and equipment; ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including computer workstations, typical electronic devices, and software; proficiency in the use of electronic devices for library work.

* Ability to manage emotions in the workplace and maintain professional composure and judgment.

* Ability to work with supervisor and process feedback regarding job performance.

* Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time in the performance of the duties associated with this position; ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance is also required; visual acuity sufficient to read spine labels; ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer is essential to this position.
