Adjunct Student Supervisor


Job Details

We are seeking a qualified individual to join our team as an Adjunct Student Supervisor in Mitchell Hamline School of Law's Institute to Transform Child Protection Clinic. This position involves directly supervising law students in their practical legal training, providing guidance, support, and feedback, and ensuring that students meet the requirements of clinical program. The Clinic includes a year-long seminar (August-May) with an in-class component on Mondays 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Adjunct Student Supervisors are not required to give instruction or attend the seminar but are welcome to participate.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor 1-2 law students during their clinical program working directly with clients and/or community partners.
  • Provide substantive guidance on legal research, writing, and practical skills.
  • Monitor student progress and evaluate their performance.
  • Be available by e-mail, chat, or telephone to respond to students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure that students meet program requirements.
  • Conduct regular supervision meetings with students to discuss their experiences and address any issues or concerns.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school (required).
  • Admission to the Minnesota bar (required).
  • Experience practicing law in the child protection system (required).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (required).
  • Experience using cloud-based video conferencing applications (i.e. Zoom or Microsoft Teams) (required).
  • Knowledge of appellate and/or legislative process (preferred).
  • Previous teaching, mentoring, or professional training experience (preferred).

Schedule:

This is a part-time, contract position, with hours to be determined based on the needs of the program. The position may require some evening or weekend hours to accommodate student and client schedules. An estimated weekly time commitment is 3-6 hours.
