Job Summary

The Somatic Counseling department in the Master of Arts Clinical Mental Health Counseling program within the Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology (GSCP) seeks to fill half-time, -time, and full-time Visiting Instructor positions beginning July 1, 2024 and extending through June 30, 2025.Applicants must demonstrate expertise in teaching a wide variety of counseling classes, including those in some of the following areas: counseling skills; dance/movement therapy theory and practice; body psychotherapy theory and practice; social and multicultural foundations; movement observation and assessment; ethics; assessment; and diagnosis and treatment. Applicants must be licensed or license eligible to practice psychotherapy in Colorado.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Teach 12 credit hours (half-time), 18 credit hours ( -time), or 24 credit hours (full-time), in MA Somatic Counseling (SC), over the course of the academic year.
Participate in the administrative operations of the SC program, including but not limited to, admissions interviews and curricular development.
Attend and actively participate in SC programmatic meetings.
In concert with SC core faculty, participate in program assessment and ongoing curriculum development.
Engage in professional development that includes pedagogical approach, contemplative view, and diversity/inclusivity.
Prepare a course syllabus according to the Academic Affairs syllabi instructions and submit the syllabus to the Office of Academic Affairs by the established deadline.
Hold regular weekly office hours and meets with students and prospective students as needed outside of class time.
Obtain permission from the copyright owner for any copyrighted material to be used in sourcebooks.
Complete any and all faculty and staff trainings as required by the Human Resources Office or the Office of Academic Affairs within the time period set for completion by those departments.
Grading papers and assignments.
Attending weekly leadership meetings.
Participation in Orientation and Graduation events.
Participation in admissions events.
Participation in student gateway meetings.
Meeting with students as needed in relationship to class content.
Understand and adhere to the policies, procedures, and protocols outlined in the Naropa University Faculty and Employee Handbooks.

Required Qualifications

Minimum length of prior relevant professional experience required:

2 years teaching in a graduate level counseling program

Other Experience, Knowledge, Skills, or Competencies Requirements?

The R-DMT or BC-DMT credential and/or advanced certification in a body-mind modality from an established institute or degree program.
Educational degree/diploma required:
A Master's degree in counseling or a related field.

May prior relevant experience substitute for degree?Yes No

Preferred Qualifications

A doctoral degree or ABD from a graduate institution of recognized standing in counseling or counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program, or have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of contemplative education and familiarity with the vision of Naropa University and the MASC Department.
Evidence of scholarly work such as professional presentations, publications, and/or a demonstrated interest in research.
