LM Restaurants currently include Evanston Corner Bistro, Grant Park Bistro, River North Bistro, Land & Lake Kitchen, and Land & Lake Rosemont.

LM Catering & Events include the Back of House operation at Hilton Orrington-Evanston, City View Loft, Kitchen Chicago, Lacuna Events by LM, LM Studio, and Twenty-Six Event venue and Sky on Nine.

Job Description

LM Catering & Events is looking to add an enthusiastic Catering Event Captain to its growing team. This position will report directly to the Director of Catering Operations and will assist in operation matters including but not limited to; training, development, performance measurement, and discipline of staff holding staff accountable with company policies. As well as regular inventory taking, ordering of products for events, and leading the events weekly As well as ensuring event spaces are set up for groups ranging from 50 -400 people. Directing staff prior to, during, and after events for proper opening, closing, and service throughout the events.

The Catering Event Captain is also responsible for ensuring that all guests have a pleasurable experience during their time with us. Ensuring guest satisfaction and instilling a customer-focused mindset in the team is a primary responsibility of this position. Ideal candidates will have strong communication (Spanish speaking is a plus) and organizational skills and will work well as a member of a team. Strong leadership skills and a positive attitude are essential. Previous catering events experience is preferred.

What will I be doing?

  • Assist in ensuring all aspects of the client/guest experience are positive and help resolve any issues that may arise
  • Training and development of staff as well as supervision during events
  • Supervision and coordinated of event set-up and tear down
  • Serve as a liaison between the Sales team, Client, FOH, and BOH during events
  • Participate in weekly BEO meetings to ensure successful event execution
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings before events
  • Assist with service where needed
  • Manage F&B service during events but also have a full understanding of the menu including allergens for specific menu items
  • Inventory and maintenance of catering event equipment
  • Ensure proper sanitation standards are upheld
  • Uphold company standards regarding uniform and personnel appearance
  • A valid driver s license is preferred but not required
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs. and be on feet for over 8hrs

Availability

  • Weekend and evening availability is required.
  • Occasional mornings and late nights
  • Occasional holidays
  • 10 hour and 8-hour shifts
  • Ability to commute/relocate to venue locations

Qualifications

  • Education: bachelor s or higher degree in a related field preferred but not required.
  • Experience: 3+ years progressive experience in Catering and Event Operations.
  • Computer Skill & Other Technical Skills: Ability to utilize computer software and hardware required. Ability to easily maneuver on computer keyboard required. Ability to assemble, analyze, understand, and present integrated spread sheets and complex technical information to all levels of management. Experience in forecasting and budget preparation. Ability to learn, utilize and communicate effectively via company issued communication devices (e.g., cell phones, etc.). Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Communication: Advanced ability to comprehend and speak English to understand and respond to information and address advanced guest requests required both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of additional language(s) preferred: Spanish.
  • Licenses or Certifications: SERV Safe Manager, Allergen Manager and Bassett certifications required.
  • Other: Must be customer-service oriented and have excellent hospitality skills. Must be able to calculate basic mathematical functions.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays.

Experience:

  • Events management: 2 years (Required)
  • Restaurant: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Hospitality: 3 years (Required)
  • Preferable Bilingual (Spanish highly preferred)
