Job Overview:

  • Enthusiastically represents SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.
  • The Registrar serves as a member of the SeaWorld Zoological Team and manages the animal records and related polices validates the quality of recorded data and ensures the legal compliance of all animal transactions. The Registrar also serves as liaison to government entities and other zoological institutions, including zoological and/or aquarium accrediting bodies, regarding animal records, wildlife permitting, and related matters. The Registrar serves as a member of the animal management team, to assist in the development and implementation of SeaWorld's collections management policy and the resulting collection plans.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Recommends, establishes, manages and maintains both active and inactive animal records systems ensuring data quality, accuracy, appropriate retention, preservation, disposition, and accessibility
  • Serves as administrator of animal records database (Tracks)
  • Recommends and establishes animal records and information management programs to ensure best practices for records retention, disposition and preservation and related systems management
  • Trains staff in animal record keeping, records management and animal data entry standards
  • Check/ enter historical records for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to record keeping standards and guidelines
  • Oversee, manage, and monitor animal transactions and coordinate with curatorial staff to ensure legal compliance with local, state, federal and international laws, government regulations and industry-specific standards
  • Ensure all relevant permits and licenses are acquired and maintained, including sending reports to regulatory agencies as necessary, including acquiring and managing local, Federal, and State wildlife permits and licenses
  • Assist with reviewing departmental policies, procedures, and documents for adherence to regulations, standards, and guidelines, including AZA, USDA, CDFW, USFWS, CDFA, etc.
  • Manages the animal census/inventory process
  • Participates in ZRA, regional zoo associations and other appropriate professional associations in an effort to develop and set standards for animal records and information management and continually elevate the level of professionalism for the Registrar position
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with Ambassadors, Vendors and our Guests
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Occasionally assist other locations and areas in the park as needed.


Qualifications:
  • 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications including Driver's License
  • Completion of the Zoological Registrars Association (ZRA) Training Certificate Program preferred
  • Professional certification in records or museum management preferred.


Education:
  • College degree in biology, records management or another related field required.

  • Knowledge of animal welfare standards and wildlife laws and regulations specific to exhibition, breeding, and domestic and international transport.
  • Experience with animal record keeping software such as ZIMS, Tracks, or equivalent for managing zoological records. (Tracks preferred)
  • Experience with records management, database management or administration, informatics, or information technology.
  • Previous experience procuring national and international permits and licenses for zoological operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of cooperative animal management programs such as Studbooks, SSPs, TAGs, etc.


Responsibility for Others:
  • Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to safety requirements.
  • Trains staff in animal record keeping, records management and animal data entry standards. including the electronic animal record-keeping program, Tracks, with an eye for detail accuracy, consistency, and adherence to record keeping standards and guidelines.


Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights, if needed.
  • Stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks (use of tools/keyboard/writing).
  • Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors and cold/heat temperature extremes
  • Perform cleaning duties, including use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Must be flexible in work locations as placement will depend on business needs and career development opportunities.


Availability:
  • Ability to travel to a minimum of one conference per year.


Training:
  • Park wide trainings including Implicit Bias and as needed.


Work Conditions:
  • Work indoors and in outside weather conditions (i.e., direct sunlight, wet and/or humid)
  • Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work in an environment with moderate noise levels.
  • Must be able to manage time wisely and set priorities effectively.
  • Able to positively interact with guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs.
