Description

Position Summary: The APEX Accelerator Procurement Counselor is responsible for providing information for companies seeking to do business with the government.

Overview: Procurement Counselor is expected to provide in-person and virtual counseling to businesses selling their goods and services to federal, state, and local government units. Counselor will meet with companies regularly to assess current markets, financial strength, capabilities and develop and recommend a strategy to initiate or increase their government sales through technical assistance and problem solve any government contracting specific issues.

In addition, the Procurement Counselor will perform operational tasks in a timely fashion to ensure clients needs and all reporting requirements are met. Counselor is expected to take ongoing education classes to stay abreast of changing policies and trends related to government contracting. The Counselor will represent the APEX Accelerator in professional settings including but not limited to: outreach events, webinars, trainings and legislative events/briefings.

Primary Responsibilities: (100% Client Support)

1. Serves as the program contact for information and assistance.

2. Assist Region 6 companies to become more knowledgeable and competitive in the government marketplace.

3. Provide technical assistance services to clients regarding federal, state, and local government agencies.

4. Maintain various computer databases used to manage company information and resources by inputting and

compiling daily counseling input and tracking monthly metrics.

5. Responsible for day-to-day processing and provision of technical information to businesses, including but not

limited to registrations and certification, bidmatch keywords, past price history and marketing efforts in Region 6.

6. Cultivate relationships with local, state and federal stakeholders and partners.

7. Work closely with clients to provide comprehensive support and counseling for overall contracting activities.

8. Evaluate client potential for market diversification

9. Responsible for maintaining a consistent Professional Development Plan.

10. Serve as staff liaison between local Economic Development Agency, resource partners and other organizations

as directed by Regional Director.

11. Maintain membership with chosen membership organizations.

12. Engage in online learning classes/webinars for continued professional education/development related to government contracting. Minimum hours required will be 40 per year.

Other Responsibilities:

13. Perform other duties as requested by the APEX Accelerator Program Director.

Requirements

Minimum Required Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

1. Associate's degree in Public Policy, Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or other related field,

or equivalent work experience.

2. Minimum of two (2) years of direct experience in business and/or economic development and/or government

procurement programs.

3. Demonstrated track record in assisting businesses to develop and secure government contracts.

4. Motivated, self-directed, self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills.

5. Strong communication skills- both written and verbal.

6. Ability to represent the Flint & Genesee Group, Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance and APEX Accelerator

7. Experience working as an effective member of an organizational team.

8. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.

9. Possess high degree of organization.

10. Ability to adhere to priorities, meet multiple deadlines and effectively present and explain complex information.

11. Ability to work effectively with all staff members to carry out organizational and programmatic goals.

12. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office and customer relationship management database, preferably CRM.

Desirable Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

1. Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or other related field,

or equivalent experience.

2. Experience with Social Media Platforms preferred not required.

3. Experience in developing training curriculum.

4. Experience with small businesses, government contracting or manufacturing-related field.
