MASTER MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (Full-time)

GRADE: 10

VSCSF Non-Exempt

Location: Randolph

BASIC FUNCTION

To oversee and carry out renovation and repair projects at a master level including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical and the like.

  • Plan, supervise, and coordinate operations associated with assigned construction, renovation and repair projects.
  • Regularly perform a variety of planning tasks related to assigned projects, including design of methods, determining and preparing estimates of cost and amount of materials needed, time needed to complete the work and the like.
  • Secure necessary supplies and materials for assigned jobs.
  • Perform a wide range of highly skilled work principally involving major repairs, remodeling, master carpentry, new construction projects or other project or area requiring a particular expertise.
  • Oversee custodial projects; train new employees; coordinate and maintain projects; monitor work in progress and check completed work; assist with difficult or unusual tasks; bring personnel problems to attention of the supervisor.
  • Perform snow removal and other maintenance and grounds tasks in connection with difficult weather situations.
  • Oversee and assist as needed with cleaning up work areas, tools and equipment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision is received from the Assistant Director of Physical Plant or other senior staff member.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school education desirable, plus seven to nine years of relevant training and/or experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

  • Some project estimating and supervision experience.
  • Broad base knowledge and skills related to the other building trades, including masonry and concrete foundation work, basic plumbing/wiring, heavy equipment operation and the like.
  • Ability to train others and supervise projects.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of staff and students and exhibit good interpersonal skills to revolve issues in a professional manner.
