About The Team:

The Grocery Outlet Recruiting & Training team is responsible for hiring and developing Aspiring Operators in Training (AOTs). Our AOT's are the crucial pipeline of Independent Store Owners. We have a very rigorous selection and development approach, accomplished by robust sourcing and assessment, facilitating scalable learning and development, cultivating, and communicating best practices and leveraging our unique culture. Our goal is to serve the AOT and Operator communities with integrity and accuracy while focusing on continual improvement, collaboration, and FUN! The Recruiting team is responsible for finding candidates who have a passion for grocery retail and an entrepreneurial spirit. The team fully educates AOT Candidates on the realities of Owning/Operating a Grocery Outlet store successfully, facilitates the relationship between AOTs and their Training Store Operators (TSOs), provides an opportunity for families to build a business together, and foster the continuing development of an exceptional Operator network. Our Training team facilitates a blended training program which includes operator/mentor-lead in store immersion and remote learning. Training focuses on developing business acumen, along with leadership, merchandising, and marketing skills.

About The Role:

The Learning Coach (LC) works closely with a cohort of Aspiring Operators in Training (AOTs) as well as Training Store Operators (TSOs) to ensure program objectives are met and skills are developed and applied. The LC is responsible for the development of the AOT through coaching, assessment, and evaluation while being their strongest advocate during their training journey. This role helps foster strong business relationships among the AOT cohort, local operator network, and GOI business partners. Additionally, this position helps to transition AOTs into successful independent operators by working closely throughout the training program, application to stores, and selection.

Grocery Outlet is growing rapidly, and this role is critical to achieving sales and store growth plans. This role is also essential to protecting and promoting the GOI culture and vision of "Touching Lives for the Better." The Learning Coach reports to the Director of AOT Field Training.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Facilitates orientation and welcome meetings for AOT onboarding to communicate best practices for AOT success.
  • Manages AOT Cohort, remote learning courses and discussions.
  • Supports AOTs use of virtual learning tools - LMS and Simulations.
  • Assigns and evaluates coursework and business plan components.
  • Reviews documents uploaded to the LMS.
  • Communicates required learning activities and tracks completion.
  • Monitors effectiveness and efficiency of in-store training by conducting regular coaching session with AOTs and TSOs.
  • Coordinates additional outside learning experiences such as grand openings, local marketing projects, inventories, etc.
  • Partners with assessors for recommendations on training plans.
  • Prepares personalized development plans based on scorecard, assessment results, and AOT needs.
  • Coordinates program course calendar, assessments, and learning experiences in partnership with key business partners.
  • Verifies expected behaviors and work habits conducive to operating a successful store.
  • Monitors progress on overall readiness to apply and operate a store.
  • Identifies and prepares subject matter experts for testimonials and question and answer discussions.


About The Pay:

  • Base Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 Annually

Final compensation will be determined based upon experience and skills and may vary based on location.

About You:

  • 5 + years prior experience in retail management or learning and development preferred.
  • Excellent planning, project management, and communication skills.
  • Experience with overseeing a training program, assessments, coaching, and use of an LMS.
  • Excel in collaborative environment and works cross-functionally.
  • Confident in training delivery, facilitation in group settings, and in a virtual environment is an asset.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs and fast paced environment.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time, includes some overnight, and out of state travel.
  • Bilingual in Spanish an asset.
  • Bachelor's Degree a plus.
