Payroll Assistant


Job Details

Assist the Payroll Manager with respect to all aspects of payroll including but not limited to data entry, reporting and clerical duties. Duties include but are not limited to development and implementation; wage administration and government reporting requirements. As a payroll assistant, the responsibilities include assisting with managing the payroll account, review and data tracking, entry for each employee, verifying hours worked and pay rates, and processing paychecks. The payroll assistant will also serve as the point person for all administrative and clerical functions within payroll.

* Audits timesheets for accuracy and compliance with payroll policy and procedures, contacts preparers or approvers as appropriate to resolve discrepancies.

* Assists with work within the payroll system to produce accurate and timely payroll. Runs reports from the automated time and attendance system each payroll cycle.

* Works with excel output reports, interprets data and recommends action as necessary. Works with payroll reports to calculate and process retroactive salary changes and to pay out appropriate earned time to terminated employees.

* Prepares special checks upon request. Places stop payments and prepares replacement checks. Folds, stuffs, sorts and distributes checks.

* Keeps accurate record of employee maintenance records including earnings, deductions and benefits. Resolves employee payroll problems.

* Maintain payroll files in compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements.

* Oversee the administration of student payroll in addition with providing assistance as needed with the administering of the other payroll functions. Providing payroll coverage and maintenance as needed.

* Provide administrative and clerical support to the Payroll Manager.

* Complete internal and external surveys and reports as required and/or requested.

* Assists in processing bi-weekly and monthly payroll.

* Handle incoming bills and invoices for payment.

* Other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources preferred SHRM certification or Payroll Certification preferred

Experience

Previous payroll knowledge is desired Must have excellent communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills Must be able to work independently Must be committed to providing quality services to employees Must be good at multi-tasking This position is privy to sensitive and highly private information; confidentiality is required to work in this position
