This position is remote with onsite requirements for initial onboarding, training, and as needed at any of the Inspira facilities.
MAJOR FUNCTION: Coders will review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. Under the direction of a Coding Manager, will accurately code inpatient records; however, may need to also code outpatient, emergency room and/or diagnostic records when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- Completion of Acute Care Medical Coder program from an accredited institution or Graduate of an AHIMA accredited Associate's (RHIT) or Bachelor's (RHIA) Degree program required.
- Associates degree in Health Information Management, or other health science related degree preferred.
- Experience:
- Three years proficient inpatient acute care coding experience required
- Two years' experience and proficient in Surgical and Interventional Outpatient Coding preferred
- Knowledge of the following required:
- ICD-10 & CPT coding schemes and manual books
- medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and the pathology of disease required
- health information management functions and computer operations
- DRG's, PSI's and HAC's
- Prior experience required:

- Working in an electronic health record
- E & M level assignment and IR coding
- Computerized billing system
- Computer Assisted Coding system and Encoder
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
C. Certification/Licensure: - Certified with a minimum of one of the following required:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
