Job Responsibilities: Be part of an active Facilities and Services team, working across campus performing building maintenance work for the General Services area. This is a fast-paced position, with varied duties including moving items, preparing for events, performing locksmith work, setting up furniture, handling materials, delivering freight, doing general building maintenance, maintaining and inspecting fire extinguishers, and performing asbestos abatement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of

  • Methods, practices, tools and equipment used for building maintenance
  • Master key system (preferred)
  • Door hardware and lock installation/repair (preferred)
  • Moving practices (preferred)
  • Event setup (preferred)

Skill & Ability to:

  • Read and understand construction drawings and general plans
  • Use routine maintenance/construction hand tools
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude
  • Work safely
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts, general construction equipment, and hand moving equipment (preferred)
  • Communicate clearly and provide good customer service
  • Lift up to 50 pounds, bend, kneel, and climb
  • Work as a team member, with a positive attitude, be flexible and receptive to a variety of work

Required License: Valid Driver's License. Asbestos certification within 1 year.

Comments: This position is required to respond to emergencies after hours, on weekends, or holidays. This position is also required to work some planned events on weekends, evenings, or holidays. The position is required to work in all types of extreme weather conditions (outside, inside, heat and cold) and well as all environments (such as in tunnels, agricultural facilities, residence halls.) SDSU is a tobacco free environment.
