Clinical Support Specialist/Medical Science Liaison

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:

The Clinical Support Specialist (CSS) plays a vital role in initiating and sustaining an exchange of scientific information with key customers and internal teams, developing and enhancing a strong network of Key Opinion Leaders (KOL). Activities include conducting scientific presentations to health care providers, in particular pulmonologists, emphasizing the medical and scientific strengths and differences of company's diagnostic tests as well as with any future company development initiatives. This position is field based. Frequent travel is necessary to support in-person activities across the country. The position requires a professional with well-established medical and/or scientific credibility with awareness of commercial priorities to interact with customers across pulmonology and associated specialties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in specific therapeutic areas by reviewing the current literature and attending key scientific and technical meetings

Support commercial team in key accounts requiring in-depth scientific product discussion

Identify regional KOLs in pulmonology and maintain scientific relationships with them, including cooperative groups, academic centers, and principal investigators associated with key clinical trials

Attend relevant local, US, or international scientific meetings to support the clinical strategy of the company

Conduct scientific presentations at various congresses, symposiums, tumor-board meetings, and to other relevant external/internal audiences

Facilitate and implement the clinical strategies of the company by identifying ongoing, or completed, clinical trials that build on the clinical utility of company products.

Address scientific questions, both in the field and in written communication, in accordance and compliance with company policies and legal and ethical standards

Find, vet, and filter investigator-sponsored trials (IST) through the approval process, and monitor these studies as they progress

Collaborate with Clinical Development , Marketing, Commercial, and R&D teams in the scientific aspects of current/future diagnostics

Partner with the commercial and marketing teams to identify the medical and scientific needs in key accounts

Support internal training initiatives

Gather market intelligence on new products in development

Participate in the strategic planning, development, and writing of clinical abstracts, manuscripts, and study protocols


COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to travel extensively, approximately 75% required

Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills to include medical writing/communication

Solid computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Ability to work well under pressure and tight timelines


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

MSc in a Life Science required

Qualified to conduct Clinical Consults as defined by CLIA Sec. 493.1455 Standard and CAP 17 CCR 1036 highly desirable

2 years diagnostic industry experience as an MSL or in a clinical sales support role desired however highly motivated, qualified candidates looking to move into the diagnostics industry will be considered
