Job Location McGilvra Elementary School - Seattle, WA Education Level High School Job Category Education Associated Recreation Council is hiring a **School-age Childcare Lead Counselor** at McGilvra Elementary School near Montlake Community Center. A School-Age Childcare (SAC) Lead Counselor is responsible for supervising participants and leading activities with the additional responsibility of program planning and staff support. SAC participants are between the ages of 5 and 12. The SAC lead counselor is responsible for constructing and maintaining a safe, fun, inclusive environment welcoming to all. As an ARC employee, the SAC lead counselor takes pride in what they do for our neighborhoods and communities and are committed to staying true to ARCs mission, vision, and values**.** * Assume the responsibilities of opening and closing procedures in the absence of an assistant director or director

* Assume the administrative responsibilities that will be delegated to them by an assistant director or director

* Oversees active supervision of participants by managing the flow and implementation of the program

* Implementation and support in planning activities and following curriculum

* Address behavior via positive reinforcement

* Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth

* Collaborate with SAC team members to ensure the success of participants

* Communicate with SAC team members, families, community center staff, and Seattle Public Schools (SPS) staff

* Provide solution-based suggestions

* Assume the responsibilities of initiating the Incident Response Plan in the absence of the assistant director or director

* Maintain cleanliness and organization of designated program space(s)

* Provide a safe environment by ensuring emergency preparedness is followed

* Remove and avoid any potential hazards

* Communicate hazards to immediate supervisor

* Support regular safety drills

* Report and document incidents/accidents to immediate supervisor

**EDUCATION | EXPERIENCE**

* Must have High School Diploma, GED, college transcripts or other secondary education

* At least one year of experience working with children between the ages of 5- 12 years old in a recreation or childcare setting

* One-year experience leading activities with a large group of children

* Has completed twelve (12) college credits in any 100-level or above college coursework as approved and verified in the DCYF MERIT system

* Experience supervising and directing staff and leading programing is preferred

* Documentation of current First Aid/CPR certification, HIV/AIDS, blood-borne pathogens education and training, a valid Washington State Food Handlers permit, MMR vaccination record, have cleared a TB test; 30 hours STARS training or documentation of exemption is highly preferred

* Successful completion of a WA State and Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) Portable Background Check (PBC) certificate.

* Must be 18 years of age or older

* Valid Washington State Drivers license or Washington State ID Required
