DEFINITION: Under general supervision, the Parks Superintendent is responsible for supervising as well as planning, coordinating, scheduling, and managing the Park Maintenance division. Division tasks include but are not limited to, regularly scheduled or special events, construction projects, and all activities for landscaping, irrigation and general maintenance of City parks, medians, roadsides, and rights-of-way, recreational facilities, and grounds surrounding city building and parking lots. The Parks Superintendent is responsible for ensuring town parks, open spaces and facilities are safe, high quality, and accessible to the public. Provides staff and supervision for special events and special projects as deemed necessary. Additionally, the Parks Superintendent is responsible for division budget maintenance, product/equipment inventory and maintenance, and other administrative functions.
Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL AND RELATED FUNCTION STATEMENTS:
Provides leadership, management, and direction to parks personnel by implementing strategic planning and procedures, overseeing employee related functions to include training, evaluating and disciplining staff, overseeing facility and grounds maintenance, and coordinating special events, general use, and facility rentals.
Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of operational methods and procedures; recommend, within departmental policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; continuously monitor and evaluate the quality, responsiveness and effectiveness of assigned operations, maintenance, repair, and construction programs, methods and procedures.
Prepares, implements, and monitors detailed program budgets for the Parks Division as it relates to facility and grounds maintenance.
Forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies, and monitors division expenditures.
Prepare activity reports of all work unit projects and operations; submit reports and evidentiary data to other departmental management staff; prepare plans and projections of future activities.
Respond to citizen questions, complaints and requests; meet with members of the community to assess issues and problems; identify and recommend solutions to the Director.
Manage, schedule, and oversee the preventative maintenance and repairs of Parks and Recreation buildings, grounds, and facilities. Schedules and inspects for quality control assigned projects and standard maintenance activities, including monthly playground equipment inspections, park inspections, facility inspections, irrigation checks, and trail inspections.
Maintains accurate and comprehensive records.
Assist in the planning and execution of special event programs by identifying resources, scheduling and directing staff, and ensuring proper set up and cleaning the event site. Plans and coordinates internal construction projects.

Performs routine preventative maintenance of all Parks Maintenance equipment which may include checking fluid and fuel levels and notifying vehicle maintenance or personnel as applicable.
Responsible for Park Maintenance strategic planning, anticipating long-term maintenance issues, and provides logical alternatives for consideration by the Director, Parks Board, City Manager, and City Council.

OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE: Attends seminars to expand knowledge within the field. Attend Parks Board and City Council meetings.
Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management or a closely related field and ten (10) years combined experience in park maintenance and recreation, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Requires a Playground Safety Inspector certification, TDA Pesticide Applicator license, or within one year or hire. May be required to obtain CDL to operate new equipment that the city acquires.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to hazardous equipment; requires constant physical efforts, and ability to lift and move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
