DEPUTY SHERIFF ENTRY LEVEL

The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff is seeking men and women who exhibit good character, sound judgment, honesty, reliability, integrity, and the desire to serve the community to be considered for the position of Deputy Sheriff Private, grade W21, for current and future vacancies.

Examples of Work

Incumbents typically perform general law enforcement and investigations controlling and serving warrants and /or extraditing persons wanted on criminal warrants. Duties include transporting prisoners to and from various institutions and courts throughout the State of Maryland and the United States. Serving civil processes/summonses; executing writs/court orders, maintaining security in the courtrooms of the Circuit Courts; monitoring prisoners in holding areas, writing reports, and providing effective and efficient services to the citizens of Prince George's County.

Shift work (which includes weekends and holidays), is required.

Qualifications

U.S. Citizen
High School graduate; (60+ college credit hours preferred)
You may apply at 20 years and 6 months and be 21 years old at time of graduation from the Police Academy.
Possess a valid driver's license and at least 6 months driving experience
Pass all of the qualification factors listed in the Additional Information.

General Plan Information:

The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.

A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.

Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.
