SUMMARY:

Provide interpreting services for any and all persons or groups, as scheduled, including interpreting for both internal and external customers. Work to ensure customer satisfaction through successful completion of interpreter assignments. Represent the agency in a professional manner at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Maintain strong relationship with customers, including education on the field by explaining policies and procedures, the demands of the interpreting job and the roles and responsibilities of an interpreter.
  • Manage schedule/assignments in a productive manner. Assigned to emergency work, as needed.
  • Act as Mentor to students and other interpreters.
  • Act as liaison to Customers including education on the field by explaining policies and procedures, the demands of the interpreting job, and the roles and responsibilities of an interpreter. Relay feedback received from customers, regarding operation of the department, to Director.
  • Act as liaison to Interpreters including education on policies and procedures, educational opportunities, and agency events. Relay feedback received from interpreters, regarding operation of the department, to Director.
  • Assist in attracting new business customers and interpreters by recommending CHS Interpreter Services.
  • Provide office support, and other duties as assigned, such as providing presentations or workshops, and coordinate projects when applicable.
  • Manage and report monthly approved expenses to management on time.


REQUIREMENTS:
  • Fluency in both American Sign Language and English with superior sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign language skills.
  • Advanced/Master license by the Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission.
  • Approved medical clearance.
  • 3 + years of related professional interpreting experience, including VRI services, with strong demonstrated experience interpreting in all areas of business/environments.
  • Must maintain certification status by completing continuing education units as required by state or national certification.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and have access to operational vehicle to travel independently in the Chicago metropolitan area and collar counties.
  • Strong problem solving, time management and priority setting skills.

  • Flexibility in work schedule including weekends and evenings.
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and a functional level.

Nonessential Skills and Experience:
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Tactile a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • High profile interpreting experience including televised and platform work.
