Job Summary
Lake Thoreau Assistants perform a variety of tasks at the Lake Thoreau Environmental Center.Duties vary but include educational outreach, building/grounds maintenance, animal care, and event coordination/management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for opening and closing the center.
  2. Ability to work and communicate well with others.
  3. Assist with events that are hosted at Lake Thoreau.
  4. Perform building/grounds maintenance.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum QualificationsAttendants should possess or be pursuing a science-based degree and have a minimum GPA of 3.2.Previous animal care experience is preferred, but not necessary.Maintenance workers do not require a degree but should be physically capable of working in south Mississippi outdoor conditions which include extreme heat/humidity, sun exposure, and rain. Other hazards include biting insects/mites/spiders, poisonous plants.All workers should have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. All workers also must pass a criminal background check.

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Exhibit individual initiative and the ability to work independently.
