Chamon Power Station, situated in Houston, Texas, is a cutting-edge peaking power plant boasting a capacity of 100 megawatts (MW). At the heart of this facility are two aero-derivative GE LM6000 simple cycle gas turbines, known for their efficiency and reliability. The plant is equipped with state-of-the-art Allen Bradley controls, ensuring seamless operation and precision in power generation.

Opportunity Summary

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician is vital for ensuring equipment reliability and continuous operability. Assisting in startup, shutdown, and routine operations, the O&M Technician monitors operational parameters and maintains major auxiliary apparatus such as air compressors, demineralized water systems, and generator cooling systems. With a deep understanding of plant processes, the O&M Technician promptly addresses issues, verifies operating conditions, and conducts visual inspections to detect malfunctions. Additionally, the O&M Technician contributes to maintenance efforts, utilizes maintenance management systems, documents actions, and supports team members in executing plans while prioritizing safety and compliance.

Primary Functions

  • Assist in startup, shutdown, routine operations, and monitoring of operational parameters to ensure the reliable and continuous operability of equipment.
  • Operate and maintain major auxiliary apparatus, including air compressors, demineralized water systems, generator cooling systems, and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Develop a clear understanding of all plant processes and takes proper actions when problems are discovered.
  • Read meters, gauges, or monitors automatic devices to record data such as equipment operating temperatures, vibration, operating hours, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions.
  • Visually inspect and listen to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
  • Assist in the maintenance of equipment by cleaning, adjusting, tightening, performing preventative or corrective maintenance, and identifying equipment in need of corrective maintenance.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), entering data accurately, and adhering to facility maintenance protocols.
  • Document equipment issues on Maximo work requests and record maintenance actions taken on work order forms meticulously.
  • Handle corrective and preventive maintenance work orders promptly and with high-quality standards, ensuring thorough documentation of spare parts usage and reordering when necessary.
  • Actively support the team members in the execution of maintenance plans by providing support (Lockout/Tagout), equipment identification, troubleshooting, work request preparation, or other areas as needed.
  • Act as point of contact for contractors when needed for larger work scope items.
  • Fully support and participate in NAES Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Complete other tasks as requested.

Working Relationships

The O&M Technician reports to the Plant Manager and cooperates with all plant personnel relative to the operation and maintenance of the facility.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. Must be able to be respirator qualified. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

This position entails a Monday to Friday work schedule during regular day shift hours from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $32.88 to $43.22 per hour.

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. Associate Degree in a technical field desirable.
  • Experience in a power plant environment desired, preferably as a Power Plant Technician or equivalent position.
  • Proficiency in startup, shutdown, routine operations, and monitoring of operational parameters to ensure equipment reliability and continuous operability.
  • Ability to operate and maintain major auxiliary apparatus, including air compressors, demineralized water systems, generator cooling systems, and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of plant processes and ability to take appropriate actions when problems arise.
  • Skilled in reading meters, gauges, or monitors to record data such as equipment operating temperatures, vibration, pressure, and fluid levels for verifying operating conditions.
  • Proficiency in utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for accurate data entry, adherence to maintenance protocols, and meticulous documentation of maintenance actions.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times.
