Position Description

The Mail Operations Associate- Metering opportunity is responsible for a variety of duties related to identifying, sorting and distributing mail in a fast-paced environment with daily deadlines. Also responsible for operating and maintaining the metering equipment and backing up other areas within the department.

Job duties include the following:

  • Deliver and pick up mail as scheduled each day to and from designated departments, offices and employees and obtain signatures as required. Deliver special and rush packages and boxes as needed.
  • Ship letters, packages and boxes using the most cost effective method. Assist with delivering and tracking boxes of paper to numerous departments.
  • Meter outgoing mail with correct postage determined by weighing items and using postage charts and meter machine. Must identify items requiring special handling such as certificate of mailing, certified mail, international addresses and registered mail and handle accordingly. Ensure that postage is replenished timely.
  • Maintain records of receipt, mailing dates and other required information including daily meter balancing and reporting. Maintain the inventory of the frequently used mailing supplies such as FedEx envelopes and boxes, Certified and Return Receipts. Keep a neat and organized mailroom including documentation and reports.
  • Cross train on the various functions within Mail Operations to assist with covering as needed and complete miscellaneous related duties and projects as assigned including covering at other nearby locations.
  • Assist with Courier duties as needed by gathering documents and items from various company locations and transporting them via company vehicle to the appropriate destination as indicated.
  • Assist with Warehouse storage duties as needed by ensuring all boxes and items are pulled, delivered, picked up and stored accurately and timely. This includes operating a Fork Lift and a company vehicle.
Position Requirements

The qualified candidate must be reliable and have the ability to increase pace to meet deadlines while maintaining quality. Must also be able to work under tight deadlines while maintaining professionalism and composure. Basic PC and communication skills are needed as well as good sorting and organizational skills. Must be able to operate vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, and have an acceptable driving record. Fork lift certification must be obtained and kept current. A minimum of 1 year of office related experience is preferred and shipping or postal service knowledge is a plus.

Working Conditions
  • Lifting and carrying full mail trays and pushing and pulling mail carts
  • Must be able to work standing much of the time in addition to bending and stooping
  • Some lifting is necessary in order to ship, deliver and store boxes at an average weight of 50-80 lbs.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements when covering courier duties
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision when covering at nearby locations
