Job Overview:

The Dean of School Culture is responsible for creating and maintaining a positive, safe, and inclusive school environment conducive to academic achievement, social-emotional development, and positive behavior. They lead efforts to establish a strong school culture, promote positive relationships, and implement strategies to address behavioral issues and promote student engagement. The Dean of School Culture will serve as a steward of Libertas Academy Charter Schools values-based school culture, and work with leadership to equip all teachers to build classroom cultures that are joyful, engaging, rigorous, and hold students to a high expectation. You will be part of a results-oriented and collaborative team of professionals who are relentless in their pursuit of educational excellence. You will receive regular coaching and feedback, and will have opportunities to grow into a transformative leader within the organization.

Demonstrate exceptional school leadership:

  • Work with all staff and students to design and implement school wide culture systems (i.e. entry, dismissal, transition, incentive systems, community meetings etc.) aligned to the vision for school culture
  • Work cooperatively with organization and school leaders to review school culture systems and develop strategies that remedy culture gaps
  • Build restorative mindsets and capacity for school staff, students, and community stakeholders, to implement the restorative practices
  • Manage budgetary resources allocated for culture programs
  • Ensure consistent implementation of research-based social emotional learning (SEL) and positive behavior interventions aligned within a multi-tiered intervention framework
  • Lead the data collection and assessment process to evaluate effectiveness of school climate initiatives including data and assessments related to service coordination, school-wide implementation of climate initiatives, stakeholder surveys
  • Manage and coach Student Culture Team members
  • Providing individual behavioral climate coaching to identified teachers
  • Participate in student disciplinary meetings and coordinate peer mediation and other restorative practices/responses to student disciplinary concerns when appropriate
  • Provide support in crisis interventions including school-wide and individual student situations, including conducting crisis assessments, positive support plans, parental notification and other reporting and notifications as required by law
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Support Services to oversee the referral of students requiring social-emotional and behavior support and social services
  • Engage school community and caregivers in the educational process by providing frequent opportunities to discuss student growth and needs
  • Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with corporations, civic groups, faith institutions, university groups and other community groups to secure volunteers and resources to meet the School vision and mission
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Executive Director


Lead outstanding professional development:

  • Facilitate various forms of professional development, including the following:
  • Thought-partnering, collaborative reflection, and planning
  • Modeling, co-facilitating, and observing restorative practices and SEL implementation
  • Small-group and whole-staff training and workshops
  • Consultation to school leadership and school teams on the development and implementation of systems and structures for restorative practices and other school culture and climate initiatives

Serve as an active member of the school leadership team:

  • Participate in weekly leadership team meetings
  • Collaborate with Deans across the Libertas team to build upon and refine culture systems
  • Assist grade chairs and other teacher leaders in developing leadership skills

Do whatever it takes to ensure that the mission of the school is fulfilled

This job description serves as a general outline of the responsibilities and qualifications expected of the Director of School Culture. Specific duties and requirements may vary depending on the needs of the organization

Qualifications:


Education: Bachelor s Degree required

Preferred skills and work experience:

  • A Master s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • At least five (5) years working in a school setting
  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a school leader is preferred
  • A demonstrated record of effectively leading adults in creating change
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with school, students, parents and community-based agencies
  • The ability to establish a multicultural and multigenerational atmosphere, including a strong commitment to working with the families of our students
  • Experience mediating disputes and designing intervention plans
  • Experience with program and contract management including budgets and compliance measures
  • Experience supervising professional supervisory level staff
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
