A successful Loss Control Consultant specializing in gas, oil, and propane industries demonstrates strong technical expertise in safety regulations and audits, managing hazards, ensuring compliance, and providing tailored safety counseling. They excel in communication, managing Safety Committees, conducting client meetings, and delivering industry-specific training. Building client relationships, coordinating services with carriers, and analyzing loss trends to develop proactive action plans are key. This consultant implements targeted risk management strategies and emergency response plans, actively enhancing safety standards and reducing operational risks in these sectors.



Job Responsibilities:


  • Conduct detailed safety audits, providing recommendations to mitigate hazards and ensure compliance with governmental regulations
  • Establish and lead Safety Committees, setting goals and monitoring progress to enhance safety practices
  • Design and deliver customized training modules, documenting participation and assessing effectiveness to improve client safety awareness
  • Develop and participate in presentations on safety, loss control, and regulatory compliance for various stakeholders
  • Review underwriting requests, oversee assignments, and coordinate services with carrier loss control representatives to optimize risk management
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of workers compensation loss reduction means, OHSA/MIOSHA regulations, NFPA, EPA, EGLE, MDARD, MSHA, and DOT regulations
  • Set and implement Risk Control goals for self-insured clients, developing activities to meet objectives
  • Utilize learning management systems (LMS) and other technologies to enhance the delivery, tracking, and reporting of safety and EHS training programs efficiently
  • Provide industry-specific hazard counseling and recommendations to sales staff to enhance client risk awareness
  • Increase departmental revenue by delivering tailored loss prevention services and programs to clients
  • Attending prospect meetings to discuss Loss Prevention Services to potential clients
  • Conduct accident investigations, recommend corrective actions, and analyze loss trends to develop effective action plans
  • Track time, budget, and invoicing, participating in client renewals and ensuring financial compliance
  • Communicate effectively with the Claims Management team on incident investigation, reporting procedures, and corrective actions



Required Qualifications:


  • Proven experience within loss control, gas, oil, propane, c-store, or related field required
  • Current knowledge of effective learning and development methods
  • Familiarity with e-learning platforms and practices
  • Experience in project management and budgeting
  • Proficiency in software: MS Office Suite, Canva, Teams, Trello, AI voice-over, Chat GPT, Zoom, Dropbox, and Brainshark or other Learning Management System
  • Strengths or familiarity with video creation equipment and software (e.g., Adobe or Final Cut)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to build rapport with customers and vendors
  • Degree or certificates in a relevant field or equivalent experience (Transportation, Environmental Health & Safety, or Risk Management); certificates are a plus
  • Experience in customer-facing roles or consulting is desirable
  • Ability to travel as needed for customer engagements



Additional Details:


  • This position is based at our Commercial HQ in Grand Rapids, MI. Driver s license and good driving history required. Up to daily localized travel with occasional overnights required
  • Hours for the role is as follows: 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday Thursday, 8:00am 4:30pm Friday (Memorial Day through Labor Day we close at 4:00pm on Friday)
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, hear, and project voice well enough without amplification. There is frequent need for the employee to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, employ repetitive small motor activity, and reach with hands and arms
  • The employee is occasionally required to lift and carry up to 30 pounds; to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to ascend and descend stairs.
  • This position requires a high energy level and ability to handle stress-related situations daily
