Coastal Hospice is seeking an energetic, motivated, and strategic thinker to lead our Finance, Information Technology, and Facilities teams into the future! Located on the beautiful eastern shore of Maryland, Coastal Hospice is the sole provider of hospice and palliative care in four counties Wicomico, Worcester, Dorchester, and Somerset.

Ideal candidates for this position must possess:

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Business Administration
  • Active CPA certification
  • Five (5) years experience in healthcare managing revenue in the Medicare Special Needs plans
  • Experience overseeing IT departments and implementing cutting edge IT solutions in a healthcare environment strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated superior cost analysis leadership skills in a healthcare organization, preferably negotiating contracts with Medicare Advantage insurance companies


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for financial analysis and cost containment controls that allow timely, accurate, and granular financial information that includes detailed revenue analysis, thorough expenses controls and detailed attention an monitoring of contracts. The Vice President will oversee the Finance and IT departments and the management of our two facilities maintenance and upkeep.

  • Establishes and maintains a proper accounting and financial record system which provides:
  • The physical safeguarding of assets and their maintenance according to industry and accreditation standards.
  • Internal controls to further protect the assets of the company and collect revenue timely in full compliance with Hospice COPs and emerging Managed Medicare and value-based regulations.
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements on a timely basis, organized by cost center, calculated by patient/day and aggregate and benchmark performance against other providers.
  • Assurance of compliance under all federal, state, and county regulations. Proactive exploration of new programs to diversify revenue.
  • Compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • With President, establishes an adequate plan for the financial control of operations which provides:
  • Capital and operating budgets
  • Financing/cash management
  • Projections
  • Results of operations
  • Comparison of performance to budget
  • Projections for new ventures
  • Anticipating IT needs
  • Monitoring of all contracts for Coastal Hospice
  • Anticipate facilities maintenance needs
  • Safeguard confidentiality according to federal guidelines
  • Assures that financial and patient accounting systems provide all necessary data for timely and accurate preparation of Medicare Cost Report and related reporting requirements of providers and government agencies.
  • Collaborates with independent auditing firm on the process of annual audit of Financial Statements and preparation of annual 990.
  • Gather and document functional and technical requirements and translate requirements into reporting solutions that will streamline processes.
  • Assist in the planning, development, testing and delivery of reports and data for routine requests as well as ad hoc requests.
  • Create standard operating procedures to ensure consistency of recurring reports, including industry benchmarks.
  • Perform statistical data analysis and interpret data results to distinguish patterns and recognize trends leading to proactive IT risk assessments.
  • Scheduling and managing routine maintenance on all locations
  • Mitigating risk and overseeing safety and security
  • Inspecting Coastal Hospice s facilities routinely to look for issues
  • Overseeing all contractors that work with Coastal Hospice
  • Ensuring facilities comply with relevant laws, regulations and safety standards including COPs and OSHA
  • Handling long-range planning to support future needs and growth
  • Helping with plans for renovations, additions, or new buildings
  • Oversees IT department and maintenance staff
  • Assures organizational procedures and polices provide non-discriminatory distribution of company benefits and compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Assists President in continual review and analysis of operational and economic impact of employee benefit programs.
  • Advises and consults with President on organizational operations related to goals and objectives, organizational structure, policies, and strategic planning.
  • Participates on committees as requested by President.
  • Performs special analysis, projects, and related duties as requested by the President.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service for both internal and external customers.
  • Evaluates company insurance options and makes recommendations to President for renewal/change.
  • Assures proper administration of 403(b) Plan, 5500 and other cafeteria plan requirements.


Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Business Administration
  • Active C.P.A. certification required.
  • Minimum 5-year experience in healthcare with an organization of equivalent size or larger managing revenue in the Medicare Special Needs plans: DSNP (dual eligible), and CSNP (chronic conditions).
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, and billing codes for Medicare Special Needs plans and palliative care.
  • Experience overseeing IT departments and implementing cutting edge IT solutions in a healthcare environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated superior cost analysis leadership skills in a healthcare organization, preferably negotiating contracts with Medicare Advantage insurance companies.
  • Flexibility and willingness to accept varied responsibilities, as the organization may require.
