Summary/Objective

The Infection Prevention Nurse assists with development and maintenance of the infection surveillance, prevention and control program based on the organization's risk assessment and other needs in accordance with state, federal and other reporting requirements.Also cross trains to the Employee Health Department when necessary.

Essential Job Duties

1. Interprets diagnostic/lab reports and identifies epidemiologically significant infectious diseases that require immediate investigation.
2. Participates in the implementation and monitoring of infection prevention/control strategies.
3. Collects, maintains and analyzes data using epidemiological principles, standardized methodology and defined criteria for HAI; learning to use NHSN; assists with outbreak investigations.
4. Participates in identification of infection risk based on geographic location, populations served, care, treatment and services provided and analysis of surveillance activities and other critical data.
5. Participates as a member of multidisciplinary improvement teams by developing graphical displays of data with dissemination of key findings to pertinent stakeholders.
6. Applies principles of adult learning to educational strategies and delivery of educational sessions. Uses literature review as an essential tool for relevant information. Identifies sources of expert opinion, evidence and information.

Required Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited nursing program

6 months - 1 year related experience

Required License/Certifications

Current RN or LVN license in the State of Texas
