Location: Cullowhee, NC

Compensation: $70,000-$80,000

Organization Description: Vecinos is a non-profit, 501(c)3 Free Clinic dedicated to delivering bilingual integrated primary and behavioral healthcare services. Our comprehensive approach includes mobile clinic services, health education, and case management. We serve uninsured, low-income adults residing in the far-western counties of North Carolina. At Vecinos, we foster a positive, supportive, and team-oriented atmosphere, where our dedicated staff collaborates to make a difference in the lives of underserved individuals. We operate in a non-traditional environment with limited resources, requiring adaptability and innovation to serve our community effectively. Please note that schedules and working hours may vary throughout the year to accommodate the healthcare needs of our patients.


Purpose: The Clinical Operations Director serves as a vital member of the Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer. In this capacity, they collaborate closely with the Leadership Team and Medical Directors to provide oversight for integrated clinical and behavioral health services. The primary objective of this role is to make well-informed, strategic, and efficient decisions to advance the organization and clinic's mission of delivering high-quality healthcare services.


Job Responsibilities


  1. Strategic Development
  • Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer in developing, managing, and implementing strategic clinical plans and programs, including collaboration on the establishment and management of an upcoming new clinical site.
  • Actively seek and nurture community collaborations and partnerships that align with the organization's mission.
  • Identify and foster opportunities for growth, expansion, and service enhancement to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the community.


  1. Clinical Leadership
  • Provide direct nursing services to support operations as needed.
  • Lead the Clinical Department, focusing on personnel selection and staffing decisions that promote cultural alignment, ensuring that the team reflects the diverse backgrounds of Vecinos patients.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to Clinic Managers and their respective teams across multiple practice sites. Monitor and evaluate team performance using established clinical performance metrics, ensuring that the patient-centered mission is upheld.
  • In collaboration with the Medical Director, monitor and/or evaluate individuals clinical skill attainment and provide regular feedback and support to staff in meeting performance expectations
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement, promoting teamwork and excellence in patient care delivery.


  1. Operational Management
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of all clinic sites, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, quality standards, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Clinic Managers to optimize workflows, patient scheduling, resource allocation, and staff productivity across all sites.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics to identify trends, address challenges, and implement strategies for improvement.


  1. Quality Assurance and Compliance
  • Implement quality assurance programs and initiatives to maintain high standards of clinical care, patient safety, and service excellence across all practice sites.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to monitor compliance with clinical protocols, documentation standards, and performance measures.


  1. Financial Oversight
  • Support the Chief Executive Officer in developing and managing the programmatic budget, ensuring the efficient allocation of financial resources to maximize the quality and scope of clinical services. Monitor expenses, revenue generation, and financial performance.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue enhancement, cost containment, and operational efficiencies to support long-term financial sustainability.
  • In collaboration with the Quality Improvement Team, ensure accurate coding, billing, and documentation practices to maximize reimbursement and minimize revenue cycle disruptions


Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina and maintenance of appropriate certifications
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a healthcare setting, with expertise in healthcare operations.
  • At least two years of experience in team management, showcasing leadership abilities and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in financial management, budgeting, and revenue cycle optimization.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and healthcare information technology
  • Proficiency in Spanish, along with cultural sensitivity, to effectively communicate and provide care to diverse populations, particularly those who are uninsured or underserved.
  • Able to work effectively as a team member and work closely with nurses, physicians, outreach staff, and other partners.
  • Cultural sensitivity, a caring and confident demeanor, flexibility, dependability, excellent written and verbal communication skills, high energy-level, willingness to work in a nontraditional/non-clinical setting, a professional attitude, desire to serve uninsured/underserved populations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • A master s degree in healthcare administration, a healthcare field, or a related field.
  • Experience in creating the infrastructure for and establishing clinical sites.
  • Native or near-native fluency in both English and Spanish, enabling effective communication with a diverse patient population.
  • Proven experience working with under and uninsured populations, demonstrating a strong understanding of their unique healthcare needs and challenges.
