The Sanitation Heavy Equipment Mechanic I serves a critical role in the operations of city-wide sanitation services, as this position is fundamental to fleet and facility operations. With a general understanding of both gasoline and diesel engines, this position completes diagnosis, maintenance, and repair on a wide variety of vehicles and light/heavy equipment. This skilled position works roadside and throughout all facility areas; ensures all working areas are clean and fully functioning and maintains safety and professionalism as priorities in all aspects of daily work.
Salary for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic I position is dependent on qualifications and experience.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and/or 2 years prior relevant experience. Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for the minimum qualifications.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a minimum of two (2) years prior verifiable mechanical experience.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class B Arkansas Commercial Driver's License (CDL). On the job training is available.
- Must be able to obtain an ASE Freon Recovery Certification through on-site training.
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be willing to work in an adverse physical environment (inclement weather).
- Ability to ensure that all contacts with the public and coworkers are courteous and professional.
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner, wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
