**SUMMARY**

Duties performed at the next technical level above the senior position within the job class. The position is classified as a specialist, and non-supervisory in nature. Job content involves complex and technically involved work.

Responsible for investigating, analyzing, evaluating, reserving, negotiating, and settling of claims against the company for property loss or damages and attempts to effect settlement with insureds and claimants involving larger exposure claims' situations of higher dollar value, claims of greater severity and more complex situations. Performs the following duties in the field.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

* Identifies different insurance contracts and endorsements and refers to specific policy contracts for interpretation of coverages in claims' situations.

* Investigates and evaluates higher value more complex first and third-party claims in the field which requires the scheduling and prompt keeping of appointments with insureds, claimants and/or witnesses, and other individuals, as needed. Prepares documentation of files, writes damage estimates, and obtains signed and/or recorded statements from insureds, claimants and/or witnesses and other individuals.

* Evaluates property damage by inspecting property damage to determine the extent of the Company's liability.

* Determines values and sets appropriate reserve.

* Negotiates and settles first and third-party claims with insureds and/or claimants.

* Obtains the appropriate documentation/information to support the amount of reserve.

* Investigates and prepares files for subrogation.

* Meets and communicates verbally and through written reports and memoranda with insureds, claimants, attorneys, state and local police, fire departments, adjusters, other companies or contractors, insurance agents, and other individuals, as needed.

* Directs and manages adjusters, investigators, attorneys, origin experts, engineers, and other individuals, who have independent assignments or, as needed.

* Assists all adjusters with files that are more complex and with greater severity.

* Develops and maintains positive relationships with independent adjusting firms, agents, independent attorneys and other similar firms, as necessary, which may include travel, visitation and attendance at various conventions and meetings. (May include overnight stays.)

* Travels primarily to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the employee's position. (May include overnight stays.)

* Travels as required to fulfill educational requirements. (May include overnight stays.)

* Other duties may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**

Bachelor's degree and 8-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to interpret profit and loss statements and various other Internal Revenue Service documents in computing pecuniary loss. Ability to understand structured settlement concepts and the ability to compute compound sums, present value and present value of an annuity.

**COMPUTER SKILLS**

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Office Productivity software such as Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Communication software, and claims-related processing software.

**CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS**

Possesses or acquires, within a reasonable period of time as established by the Company, the required adjusters license(s) for the geographical territory assigned by the Company. The Company may require the employee to acquire, within a reasonable period of time as established by the Company, adjusters licenses for other states in which the Company does business.

The Company may expect the employee to acquire the Associate in Insurance Claims (AIC) designation sponsored by the Insurance Institute of America.

The Company may expect the employee to take other courses it deems appropriate to the employee's duties and responsibilities.

Possesses a valid driver's license.

Must be able to travel 90% of the time to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Must be willing and able to perform essential duties and responsibilities before and/or after normal working hours including weekends, as required.
