Salary range: $2,192 - $2,631 per pay period (semi-monthly)

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, hourly

POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, intervenes on behalf of at-risk adults to correct or alleviate situations in which imminent or actual danger of abuse, neglect, or exploitation exists.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities listed below are central to the job and the employee must be able to perform each function satisfactorily. (1) Perform Ongoing duties as Guardian Agent for at risk adults when Teller County Department of Human Services has been appointed the Guardian

(2) Work with attorneys and guardian ad litems regarding ongoing court cases; testify and make recommendations to the court.

(3) Implement adult care plans utilizing client relatives, friends and community support systems to resolve abusive, neglectful or exploitative situations. Provide advocacy for clients with no party to assist them.

(4) Document case plans, assessments, contacts, and recommendations; prepare and maintain client case files.

(5) Act as back up to the APS CWIII to investigate Adult Protective Services referrals for possible abuse, neglect or exploitation; interview and observe clients, family members and other relevant sources.

(6) Participates in conferences, staff meetings, workshops and attend training sessions as required.

(7) Give presentations on Adult Protection Services to various audiences as required.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. The list is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all knowledge, skills or abilities that are required.

(1) Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of: dynamics of disabled adults and the elderly; principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Skilled in: use standard office equipment: computer, fax machine, copier, and telephone; effectively prioritizing and managing time to comply with multiple mandated time frames.

Ability to: communicate effectively in writing and verbally; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public; efficiently plan, schedule, and organize; assess situations and make prudent and appropriate decisions; apply conflict resolution and problem solving skills; accurately and efficiently complete paperwork, reports, and documentation; work independently as appropriate.

(2) Experience/Education: Bachelor's degree with an equivalent of thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter hours in human behavioral sciences or health care related course such as social work, sociology, psychology, psychiatry, gerontology, nursing, special education, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, therapeutic techniques, guidance and counseling, criminal justice, other human behavioral sciences or a medical field relevant to the APS program and /or at risk adults; plus one (1) year of professional casework experience; any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

(3) Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to communicate with clients and co-workers in person and by telephone; ability to hear in person and by telephone; ability to see and read printed materials and documents and characters on a computer screen and traffic signs.

(4) Physical Effort/Dexterity: Ability to perform moderate physical work and to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; ability to use a typing keyboard, operate office equipment, drive a vehicle; ability to stand, walk, sit, ride, bend, grasp and reach.

(5) Environmental Factors: Work is performed in an office setting, clients homes and residential facilities. Elements of weather are sometimes encountered; caution must be exercised when intervening in abuse, conflict cases.

(6) Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week, with occasional after hours work. Will be subject to on call.

(7) License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver's license; Successful completion of Colorado Adult Protection Services Training Academy. Ability to pass all background checks (CBI etc.) and ability to pass a drug test.
