GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, performs all aspects of humane animal care duties to ensure animal safety and well-being.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cleans, disinfects and maintains shelter areas as assigned.
- Feeds, waters and bathes animals.
- Provides humane sheltering services in compliance with State minimum standards and shelter policies.
- Safely and humanely handles animals of unknown health and temperament.
- Contributes to the programs and services that support the shelter's live outcome goal.
- Ensures the safety of animals and people in the shelter.
- Accurately maintains all required records in the shelter's database.
- Assists in unloading trucks, stocking shelter areas and storing materials.
- Maintains facility and grounds in a clean, neat and organized manner.
- Varying hours Sunday through Saturday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm including holidays.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience:- A High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Some experience working with animals is preferred.
Required Licenses or Certifications:- Reliable transportation is required.
Required Knowledge of:- Animal services and related programs.
- Applicable processes, techniques and principles.
Required Skill in:- Safely handling animals, including those with unknown temperament.
- Adherence to disease management and safety protocols.
- Working with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
- Establishing and maintaining effective communication and working relationships with City employees and the public.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:- Work is performed in the City animal shelter; work involves moderate physical demands.
- Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards and be able to lift up to 96 lbs.
