What We Are Looking For

The Tax Accountant will work with the Tax Director to ensure compliance with state and federal tax law through a series of systems and system controls that are designed to ensure accurate, timely reporting. While working with cross-functional teams across NOCO, this position is responsible for preparing tax returns and managing the tax return calendar. Responsibilities also include staying current on tax law changes and changes in the business activities of the company to provide appropriate guidance on the various tax-related policies and strategies.

What You Will Do

  • Prepare, analyze, and file sales, use, and other tax returns and filings for multiple divisions and entities
  • Maintain and reconcile all tax general ledger accounts and evaluate all account balances
  • Evaluate and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures
  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes
  • Manage overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with tax teams (internal and external)
  • Oversee corporate calendar for all fuel, insurance, and other bonds to ensure that all bonds are secured and renewed on a timely basis
  • Research taxability of transactions in jurisdictions while monitoring legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team, and create strategies to capitalize on changes to tax legislation
  • Oversee the customer and vendor tax exemption tracking process to ensure that all required tax exemption certificates are properly filed in database systems and available for audit scrutiny, as necessary
  • Manage and facilitate jurisdictional sales and excise tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, interacting with auditors where necessary
  • Responsible for annual Form 1099 vendor reporting, including coordination of new vendor set-up process with accounts payable and purchasing
  • Provide support with various internal audits and special projects
  • Other duties as assigned


What You Will Need
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with 4-5 years of related experience
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Strong background in state sales and use tax, with knowledge of partnership, corporate and individual taxation
  • Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with U.S. federal, state, and local reporting requirements
  • Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements
  • Strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other tax team members
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
