Description

The Box Office Attendant works for the Division of Arts and Culture and West Valley Arts and Cultural Foundation (collectively, West Valley Arts), and may be stationed at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center and West Valley Performing Arts Center depending on need. This is a part-time position that requires a flexible work schedule throughout the week and weekends, especially during events. Start and stop times will vary from week to week depending on what events and performances have been scheduled. This position may be responsible for the direct supervision of events hosted at either facility, but primarily will work in operation of the concessions stands and cashiering. You may also be required to work at multiple sites doing various duties on a single day. The Box Office Attendant is responsible for communicating information regarding the event's location, seating options, price structures, and other details to help guests select the best event ticket option. The incumbent will process ticket orders and collect payments.

Starting Pay: $14.00 per hour

Schedule: Part-Time, 20 hours per week

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Take and process ticket orders during regular business hours and during performances via phone, in person, by mail, and by email.
  • Answer all incoming calls and return all calls on the ticket office phone line.
  • Schedule large groups visiting the box office; arrange schedules for special staff operations; and work with the Accounts Payable & Receivables Clerk to ensure all daily ticket sales and money brought in are balanced.
  • Make outgoing calls to patrons regarding program or event changes and new services or offerings as necessary.
  • Work the box office at all West Valley Arts performances and events to sell tickets, distribute will call, and handle any re-seating issues that may arise in concert with the Front of House Supervisor.
  • Accurately and efficiently processes orders for and collect payments from guests.
  • Follow cash handling and inventory procedures to ensure security of assets and inventory.
  • Greet customers with a positive and friendly demeanor. Assist guests by providing information, answering questions and processing requests.
  • Resolve customer concerns by providing superior customer service, utilizing common practices for resolution, and escalating to supervisor when needed.
  • Provides upselling opportunities to similar events in the genre by demonstrating a strong knowledge of upcoming events.
  • Contributes to the team dynamic by assisting coworkers, maintaining the facilities' cleanliness and helping to develop and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a driver's license and have adequate access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.

  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment, under short time constraints and within established deadlines.
  • Ability to utilize basic math skills.
  • Available to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Education and/or Experience
  • Must have a high school diploma (or equivalency).

Language Skills
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in the English language both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Requirements
  • Experience using OvationTix software.
  • 1+ years of related work experience in events, hospitality, performing arts, or similar industry.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish or other).

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform various activities such as constant standing, walking, frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, squatting, and moving items such as tables, chairs, display items, & event related equipment.
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to work well around many people.
