Statistical Research Programmer

Statistical Programmers work in a multidisciplinary environment in support of research on a wide range of issues spanning health care, education and labor, social and economic wellbeing, national security, and military manpower.

Duties

RAND is currently seeking Statistical Programmers with experience analyzing health claims data in SAS to work closely with research staff in creating, managing, and analyzing large and complex data sets. Statistical Programmers are expected to acquire understanding of the research topic and a thorough knowledge of the data involved while applying programming and analytic skills.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to program using SAS for data management and statistical analysis.
  • Experience with SQL including PROC SQL
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a solid understanding of statistical methods
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to produce careful and detail-oriented work.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience programming in either R or Python preferred.
  • Experience working with longitudinal surveys preferred.
  • Experience working in research settings strongly preferred.


Education

BS/BA in statistics, biostatistics, or related quantitative field required. MS/MA in statistics, biostatistics, or related quantitative field preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum one year of experience working with health-care claims data from Medicare, Medicaid, or private-sector health-care claims such as Marketscan data required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in statistical programming with SAS required.
  • Experience working in remote enclaves such as the VRDC, NBER, IDR required.


Security Clearance

U.S. citizenship may be necessary for positions requiring a U.S. government security clearance.

Location

Hybrid work environment from Santa Monica, CA; Washington, D.C.; Pittsburgh, PA; or Boston, MA

Coding Sample Required

Applicants will be required to provide Code sample(s) -related work uploaded as a writing sample.

Salary Range: $85,700 - $179,700

Research Programmer II: $85,700 - $127,500

Research Programmer III: $100,100 - $152,400

Research Programmer IV: $117,700 - $179,700

Successful candidates will be offered employment in a specific title, as determined by the candidate's education and experience. The salary range includes base pay plus RAND's sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken).
