IHR Architecture in Durham, North Carolina seeks an Architectural Designer with a Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree and 1-5 years of experience at an architectural firm. Healthcare and Higher Education sector experience is a plus. Our firm has been serving healthcare and university clients in the central North Carolina area for over 50 years.

Ideal Candidate:

Healthcare projects involve building relationships with multiple client and consultant personnel, balancing multiple priorities, focusing on design details and code compliance, with a commitment to coordinating with team members to provide an excellent design on time and within budget.

  • Motivated self-starter passionate about growing professionally.
  • Experience with designing and detailing new construction and renovations.
  • Excellent communicator, relationship builder and team player
  • Availability within 1 3 months. Sooner preferred.
  • Architectural degree from NAAB accredited university, architectural firm experience and pursuing licensure.


Job Responsibilities:

Work with a firm principal(s) to support project scopes from design presentations, feasibility studies, life safety analysis, conceptual design through construction documentation, and construction administration both in the office and on site. Our goal is to prepare you to manage projects and grow your career.

  • Collaborate on design studies and production of construction documentation.
  • Construction administration duties based on experience.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients through communication skills, design research, and reliably produce solutions.
  • Develop quality control techniques that begin with designer self-checking work prior to reviewing with principal.
  • Prioritize tasks and coordinate with team members to keep project on schedule.


Skills and Software Proficiency desired:

  • Excellent communication skills graphical, written and verbal with fluent English
  • Ability to collaborate and work independently.
  • Analytical information assessment and graphical design skills to provide creative solutions.
  • Positive and professional relationships with team members
  • Proficiency in Revit and Autocad (indicate any testing done to validate skill level)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint
  • Competency with 3-D and digital rendering software(s)
  • Experience with Building Codes for Inpatient, Outpatient, and Residential healthcare facilities.
  • Sustainability design experience, a plus
