Melick & Porter is seeking an Employment Attorney to join our insurance defense law firm. The attorney will have regular contact with clients, carriers, and opposing counsel, with the opportunity to gain litigation experience. This position offers the opportunity for independence and growth, while still providing mentoring, oversight, and a collegial, supportive environment. The ideal candidate must possess at least three to five years of civil litigation experience in employment law.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
- Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions (fact/expert witness), motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies.
- Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients on legal and factual issues.
- Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel in a prompt, professional, and productive manner consistent with established office procedures.
- Responsible for the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases.
- Assist in preparing and presenting witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolutions.
About you
- Bachelor s degree with J.D., and admission to the Massachusetts Bar.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in civil litigation and employment law.
- Litigation Experience required (e.g., taking and defending depositions, preparation and filing of discovery and related motions, oral argument experience, etc.).
- Insurance defense and coverage experience a plus.
- Strong writing skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent work ethic.
