Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Education and Training (E&T) Center's Program Director of Employer Services, the Workplace Education ESOL Instructor will support students and facilitate English as a Second Language Classes for incumbent workers at employer locations and virtual classes as the need dictates. The Workplace Education Program is an employer informed and industry focused program designed to provide workers with language, literacy and related skills instruction on the job so that they can maintain employment, advance in their careers and participate more fully in their family and community lives.

The Workplace Education ESOL Instructor will be an experienced instructor and will create curriculum for and deliver English language classes to non-native english speakers in workplace settings. The goal of this role is to support incumbent workers to increase their english language levels so that they can communicate more effectively in the workplace which will allow them the opportunity to advance in their careers.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in TESOL, education or related discipline
  • 3-5 years of ESOL teaching experience with demonstrated success
  • Familiarity with DESE policies and requirements
  • Ability to determine a student's English language level
  • Best Plus 2.0 and/or TABE CLAS-E certification
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite tools and online conferencing platforms such as Zoom
  • Comfortability with using asynchronous learning tools
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings


Compensation: $28.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities

Key Functions/Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:
  • Create learning materials and curriculum outlines for contextualized english language classes that are industry focused in consultation with employers to address the needs of their workforce
  • Develop appropriate activities and case studies for use in the classroom to enhance students learning experience and understanding of English language curriculum
  • Incorporate asynchronous learning assignments and opportunities into the developed curriculum as needed


Assessment:
  • Conduct pre and post assessment testing on students to determine their english language levels upon entry into the program and english language level gains at the end of the program
  • Administer evaluations during the program to monitor students understanding and progress


Teaching:
  • Teach English language classes for a variety of learners at different English learning levels in-person and/or virtual focusing on listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • Tailor teaching style to the needs of the students
  • Augment curriculum with real world scenarios relevant to the students industry of work
  • Promote cultural sensitivity and awareness in the classroom environment
  • Incorporate digital literacy skills into weekly lessons
  • Integrate evidence based teaching practices in alignment with Massachusetts Professional Standards for Teachers of Adult Speakers of Other Languages


Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain accurate attendance records for all classes and submit them to the Program Director in a timely manner
  • Maintain student progress notes in the database
  • Create learning agendas and syllabuses to be distributed to students


Team Meetings/Supervision
  • Participates in workplace education program evaluation and/or follow up meetings as needed
  • Meet with Program Director of Employer Services to discuss class progress
