Job Overview:

We are seeking a part-time accounting assistant committed to our mission of developing responsible citizens of a global society. Under supervision of the Account Manager and working directly with the Accountant and Accounting Manager, the Accounting Assistant processes data into the accounts payable system while maintaining AP files, assists in maintaining the student billing system, assists in development receipt processing, assists in payroll & benefits processing and assists in other essential functions of the business office.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the accounts payable process including filing documentation, ensuring proper approvals and entering data into the accounts payable system.
  • Assists in the accounts receivable process including reconciling charges, contacting families, and reconciling billing schedules.
  • Assists in the payroll process including time-card reminders and following up with payroll issues.
  • Assists in processing of donation receipts including reconciling with the development office.
  • Processes payments to benefits providers, including COBRA.
  • Works with outside vendors to process employee fingerprints and background checks.
  • Serves as a back-up to the Accountant for accounts payable & accounts receivable processing.
  • Serves as a back-up to the Accounting Manager for payroll processing.
  • Assists in employee benefits function including onboarding and annual benefits enrollment.
  • Assists Business Office staff with regulatory filings.
  • Regular school related duties including recess/lunch/arrival/dismissal supervision.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associates degree with Business/Accounting emphasis, or equivalent experience required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university a plus
  • General ledger accounting and fund accounting experience a plus
  • 3+ years' experience in Accounting/Finance/Business Office preferred

  • Proficient at working in a Microsoft Windows environment (Windows 7 or higher), using Office (version 2010 or higher), including Outlook; ability to master common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology; Experience with school-focused technology (Veracross) is a plus
  • Ability to talk on the phone
  • Ability to sit and keyboard up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (full file boxes)
