Job Description

The full-time research farm position involves a wide range of field and greenhouse/ growth room activities supporting the potato and oat breeding programs including agronomic trialing support, soil preparation, planting, weeding, harvest, storage, evaluation of samples, data entry, chemical spraying, equipment operation, lab work and other related duties as assigned. Own at least one environmental health and safety program. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and do physical work indoor and outdoor. Moderate organizational, computer skills and the ability to be licensed PIT/forklift driver and pesticide applicator is required.

Assist in the execution of potato and oat research farm operations, encompassing tasks such as planting, harvesting, field inspections, and irrigation. Support the offsite trial planting, stem count, harvest, and equipment maintenance operation when needed.

Operate a diverse range of farm equipment, including but not limited to the disc, cultivator, planter, hiller, fertilizer spreader, wind rower, harvester, irrigation pivots, plow, mower, and more.

Engage in potato storage activities involving seed cutting, preparation, shipping, and grading of potatoes.

Provide support for the general maintenance of farm equipment, including tractors, implements, and irrigation systems, among others.

Participate in greenhouse activities and contribute to its maintenance.

Assist in snow removal and support buildings and grounds maintenance.

Actively take part in Safety Programs to ensure a secure working environment.Work schedule is typically Monday - Friday, 7:00-3:30, 40 hours per week. Occasionally additional hours are required during planting and harvest. Weekend work can be required, but is rare. Overtime is straight time.
