Purchasing Manager (Food Ingredients and Flavors)


Job Details

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for building and maintaining supplier relationships to meet business needs. This position will develop procurement strategies that are inventive and cost-effective.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Source and engage reliable suppliers and vendors; negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure advantageous terms
  • Review existing contracts with suppliers and vendors to ensure on-going feasibility; perform risk assessments on potential contracts and agreements
  • Receive and create purchase requests
  • Evaluate all available vendors; negotiate pricing and contracts
  • Issue purchase orders
  • Collaborate with all departments to ensure receipt of products/services; verify data is entered and correct in ERP system
  • Collaborate with all departments to ensure quantity and quality of products/services; collaborate with QA for raw material approvals
  • Provide completed purchase documentation to Accounts Payable
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Negotiate nondisclosure agreements, manufacturing agreements, supply agreements, and contracts for new and existing vendors
  • Establish robust purchasing KPIs, competitive bid systems, and analyze purchase variances
  • Prepare procurement reports


Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business Administration


Competencies:

  • Prior experience purchasing and sourcing Food ingredients, especially dairy ingredients and commodities like bulk cheese, cream, anhydrous milkfat, etc. , is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry principles, procedures, and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to manage supply chain operations
  • Experience using supply chain management software and tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of preparation and review of contracts, invoicing, and negotiation terms
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines


This is a full-time job with benefits. Hours are on site 8am - 5 pm with an hour lunch break. Benefits include health insurance coverage, generous PTO, annual bonus (8-15%), retirement plan, and more.
