Nonprofit Controller


Job Details

We are working with a non-profit with a wonderful mission, seeking a Controller who will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and non-profit regulations. This role will oversee the financial systems, ensuring that data is accurate, timely, and complete.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the organization's financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • Oversee the accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to management and board of directors.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with GAAP and non-profit regulations.
  • Manage the organization's relationships with external auditors, tax consultants, and other financial service providers.
  • Provide leadership and support to the finance team, ensuring high levels of motivation and productivity.
  • Manage the software systems, ensuring that data is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
  • Provide training and support to staff on the use of financial systems and processes.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure financial processes are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
    • 7+ years of experience in non-profit accounting, including management of financial systems and staff.
    • CPA or similar certification preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit regulations.
    • Experience with Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge software preferred
    • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, and work effectively under pressure.
