The Clerk is responsible for sourcing parts, purchasing inventory, pricing of repair jobs, and maintaining positive vendor relations. This individual will coordinate shipments of purchase orders, input large quantities of data into the computer, and be able to navigate company software easily and efficiently. The Purchasing Assistant is responsible for processing all purchasing requests for all supplies, services, and equipment. The Purchasing Assistant is responsible for ensuring all orders are processed in an accurate and timely manner, as well as identifying and sourcing viable substitute products to minimize the impact of backorders on our customers. The Purchasing Assistant is also responsible for ensuring that invoice and price discrepancies are resolved.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply with Westlake's Safety Policies.
  • Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling flexibility.
  • Provide safety leadership in promoting and creating a zero-injury safety culture.
  • Review purchase orders and requisitions for accuracy.
  • Processing purchase orders daily.
  • Vendor procurement, qualification, audit, and maintenance.
  • Adheres to purchasing policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Follows up on orders to ensure that materials are shipped and delivered on promised dates.
  • Updates order records (e.g. dates, invoices).
    Interact with suppliers at all management levels.
  • Assists and coordinates with buyers as required.
  • Works with accounts payable to resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Creates and maintains reports for purchasing as required.
  • Verifies vendor and receiving documentation for completeness and approvals.
  • Orders office and warehouse supplies
  • Responds to purchasing inquiries and maintain vendor/source information.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:
  • Computer and software experience.
  • Past purchasing experience a plus.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:
  • Prolong sitting or in stationary position.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hardhat protection).
  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs or ladders.
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions.
  • Exposure to external and internal temperature fluctuations.
  • Exposure to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable.
  • Ability to stand for up to 12 hours performing shift work or in a stationary position.
  • Perform repetitive movements.
  • Bend or twist.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Work in constant noise levels above 85 decibels.
  • Handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Able to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
